École Polytechnique has a long tradition of international exchanges. Today this tradition continues, with the school receiving each year around 800 talented international students in both degree-seeking and non-degree-seeking programs, making up a third of the student body.
It is one of the first French Grandes Écoles to have accepted international students. The very first foreign students to attend classes at l’X came from Northern Europe in 1798, and the first Chinese student arrived in 1913.
