Instituto de Lengua Española / The Spanish Language Institute: San Jose - College Program

If you are hoping to use the Spanish language in cross cultural ministry, the Spanish Language Institute is the ideal place to pursue your interests. Since 1942, the Spanish Language Institute has helped over 16,000 individuals achieve the language skills needed to serve the Lord in the Spanish-speaking world. 

The Spanish Language Institute is excited to be celebrating our 77th year of equipping, educating, and serving the body of Christ. However, the Institute is much more than a language school. It is a wonderful place to help individuals and families transition from their home country to their future field of service, providing help with housing, on-campus pastoral counseling, recreational facilities, and the opportunity to build community with other like-minded individuals who are preparing for where God is calling them. In addition to these opportunities, there is an on-campus, bilingual children’s school, Sojourn Academy, available for those that have children from newborns - 12th grade. 

The Institute offers its services to Christian colleges and universities who are looking for a program that is strong in both academics and hands-on ministry. At the Spanish Language Institute, college students receive outstanding instruction from native speakers who are experienced in helping career missionaries achieve the language proficiency they need to be effective in ministry. At the same time, students have the opportunity to live in a middle class, Costa Rican home and do volunteer service, twice a week, in a ministry to poor families
