Irish Studies Summer School: Dublin - Study Abroad at Trinity College Dublin

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned how differently people live outside of the US. This experience taught me how amazing other cultures can be and I will be going back to Ireland in the near future.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? None

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Everyone was so supportive and were never too busy to help you out!

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

I was not particularly a fan of the food in the actual city of Dublin, but I am a very picky eater. Once you got outside of the city centre, the food got better!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I chose to meet people from Ireland instead of strictly focusing on the Americans who were in the program. By doing that, I feel that I was able to get a real experience of Irish living and the culture. I strongly encourage everyone to do that! You can always meet Americans, but you cannot always meet Europeans!

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I did not have any health issues, but my roommate did and she was very well taken care of!

* Safety:

I've never felt so safe in such a big city! I wasn't afraid to go out alone at all, even after dark.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Being a first time traveler, the support system I had with the program made a huge impact on my experience. You could not find a better group of people.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I've never been out of the country before and I was only there for a few weeks, so I spent about $150 to $200 every week in total. If I was there for a semester, it would have been less!

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? GROCERY SHOPPING!

Reasons For Studying Abroad

The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
