About
USIT offers an School in Irish Studies on the city centre campus of Trinity College, Dublin. For more than twenty-five years the school has offered an opportunity to develop a deep understanding of contemporary Ireland. Carefully constructed parallel module courses introduce the student to Irish literature, history, politics, social and cultural studies, Gaelic literature and folklore and the visual arts. Apart from lectures and seminars, the school also includes a complementary programme of cultural events and study field trips.
Located in the heart of the capital city, Trinity College Dublin is the ideal place to embark upon a course of Irish studies. Ireland's oldest university, Trinity College was founded by Queen Elizabeth I in 1592 and is one of the best known universities in the English speaking world with an academic reputation that extends worldwide. Oliver Goldsmith, Edmund Burke, Oscar Wilde, JM Synge, Jonathan Swift and Samuel Beckett are among the many notable graduates whose spirits roam the cobbled courtyards and leafy squares of the college. The Library of Trinity College is the largest research library in Ireland, with almost four million volumes. The Old Library houses the richly illuminated Book of Kells among its vast collection of books and manuscripts, music and maps.
