Academically rigorous, but great fun. A true Oxford experience! Past Review

By (St. Olaf College) - abroad from 01/04/2018 to 04/18/2018 with

Middlebury Schools Abroad: Middlebury – CMRS Oxford Humanities Program

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Definitely worthwhile. I learned more about how to live and function in a different country, a long ways from home. I also improved academically, too, especially my writing.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Very rigorous and academically intense, but a great experience!

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Living with many, rather messy people.

* Food:

You have to cook for yourself. Given a small stipend to spend at the Keble dining hall - brunches there are amazing!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Not a lot of opportunities to easily integrate yourself within the university. I had to make a concerted effort to meet a few people and join clubs.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

NA. We had health care, but fortunately, I did not need to use it.

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? It's going to be an intense eight weeks of tutorials, and sometimes you won't have the best, most successful weeks. That's okay! Essays are not a final product, they are an attempt to articulate and process what you've been learning. Listen to the admin when they say this during orientation.

You went abroad with specific academic goals in mind; the program credentials and rigor of your coursework abroad were very important to you. You had a great time abroad, but never lost sight of your studies and (if applicable) were diligent with your foreign language study. Good for you!
