Great program but could be better January 27, 2026

By (humanities and catholic culture, Franciscan University of Steubenville) - abroad from 09/03/2025 to 12/12/2025 with

Middlebury Schools Abroad: Middlebury – CMRS Oxford Humanities Program

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I advanced a lot in my writing

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The program is academically rigorous and is mentally stimulating. I highly recommend it for those who are looking to study abroad and greatly improve their writing skills. However, it is to be noted because of the loss of Christian culture in England, you are very likely to receive lower grades if your Christian beliefs and political stance comes through in your writing.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Staff for the most part is great as far as their aid in furthering your education and experience but they do tend to want to exert their "authority" over you and are to controlling especially if you come from an American university where you are used to being your own autonomous adult.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

It is England so you cannot expect it to be the safest.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

yes but I would wait til Junior year and try to get more friends from my home University to come.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

if you want to take full advantage of your time abroad you need extra money for travel and purchasing your own food. Food eats up a lot. I would recommend 6-7,000 in all.

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? If you plan on traveling a lot I would purchase a 3 month train pass

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
