Overall Experience
A student studying abroad with Middlebury Schools Abroad: Middlebury In Rabat, Morocco
I learned a lot about the Moroccan culture and history. I also learned a lot about myself both as an individual and a student. It was very worthwhile. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I feel that I learned a lot, I got to live in a foreign country on my own, I got to travel, I met a lot of different people. It was worthwhile, though I wonder if it would have been better to only do a semester instead of two since the second felt very repetitive. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
My mastery of the Arabic language advanced by leaps and bounds. I also learned a great deal about Moroccan history and culture. I absolutely think the experience was worthwhile, both personally and academically. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
My Arabic improved tremendously! - Middlebury College View Entire Review
It was definitely worthwhile. I learned that had I prepared more thoroughly, my first month or so would have probably been easier. But I also knew that I had a learning curve and though it took awhile, once the language clicked, it really felt like I had begun to truly internalize Arabic. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Language, cultural perspective, friends - Middlebury College View Entire Review
Past Review The Kingdom
Language skills, great friends, good experiences, and a lot of time alone. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
it was very hard but worthwhile. I did not learn only to speak a language or facts about a foreign country, I understood a completely different culture. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I gained invaluable experience living and studying in another country. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I gained a better knowledge of Arabic, a familiarity with an Arabic and Islamic culture, and an appreciation of Moroccan cuisine, primarily. It was all worthwhile. - Wellesley College View Entire Review

About

The Middlebury School in Morocco offers a fully immersive academic and cultural experience in the country's historic capital. Guided by the Middlebury Language Pledge, students commit to using Arabic throughout their time abroad, developing advanced language skills through rigorous coursework, daily interactions, and meaningful engagement with Moroccan communities. Participants gain firsthand insight into Morocco's rich cultural traditions, diverse history, and contemporary society.

For thousands of years, Morocco has served as a crossroads of civilizations, shaped by the exchange of Berber, Arab, African, and European peoples, languages, traditions, and ideas. This remarkable cultural diversity is reflected in the country's architecture, cuisine, arts, and social life, making Morocco an exceptional setting for students seeking a deeper understanding of the Arabic-speaking world.

Located on Morocco's Atlantic coast where the Bou Regreg River meets the ocean, Rabat is a vibrant and welcoming capital city of more than one million residents. Combining centuries of history with the energy of a modern political and cultural center, Rabat offers students the opportunity to experience everyday Moroccan life while exploring historic landmarks, bustling markets, museums, and coastal neighborhoods. Middlebury's partner institution, Mohammed V University, founded in 1957 as Morocco's first modern university, provides students with a dynamic academic environment and opportunities to engage with Moroccan peers.
