I learned a lot about my own flexibility and adaptability and for that reason it was worthwhile Audrey K - University of Pennsylvania View Entire Review
I improved so much in my Arabic skills! I also found out what it was like to be abroad for the first time and when I solo-traveled to Tarifa in order to renew my visa, I felt a sense of independence that I hadn't before (lit's much different from going to the airport alone) A student - Wesleyan University View Entire Review
I learned so much about how I adjust across cultural borders, especially being so far away from all my family and friends. Otherwise I learned so much Arabic, and feel like my language skills really improved. A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Yes, I acknowledge that my language skills improved, but I wish I had made a more significant social impact. The volunteer assignment they chose for me didn't feel worthwhile in that regard. cleo b - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I learned how to navigate in a non-westernized country and system on my own while also acclimating to the culture. It was a unique experience because I developed close relationships with local Moroccans that I never could have done without Middlebury's dedication to language study. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
It was definitely worthwhile! It taught me a lot about myself and about a part of the world I had never been to before. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review

I gained a wonderful host family and dialect and knowledge of culture A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
Super worthwhile, I learned a lot. I ended up taking a semester off in order to stay in Morocco, so the lessons I learned in study abroad are sort of mixed up with the lessons I learned from a year in Morocco A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
Underwent spiritual transformation. it was epic. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
It was absolutely worthwhile. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I developed great relationships with the people I interacted with regularly and I learned to appreciate a new culture which I absolutely fell in love with! It was definitely worthwhile! A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
Language skills, culture A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
Definitely worthwhile. I feel like my perspective on the world, and of course especially Morocco, was expanded and deepened in a way that would not have happened had I not studied abroad. A student - Grinnell College View Entire Review
Language skills, cross-cultural communication, and life skills. definitely worthwhile. A student - Connecticut College View Entire Review
I definitely improved my language skills. I had to try to either be ok with people making assumptions about me, or build my identity and personality in different ways, since language was something I couldn't rely on. Mishka B - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I learned language skills and coexistence skills. I also strengthened my sense of independence and ability to go out and interact with strangers. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I learnt a lot about the Moroccan culture and languages. The food is awesome and people are hospitable to foreign students. Anne - Middlebury College View Entire Review
It was definitely worthwhile. Gained a lot of new perspective on the world. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review

Arabic arabic arabic Taking care of myself Going out of my comfort zone (traveling outside Rabat) Kathryn Tyson - Wellesley College View Entire Review
My experience abroad was worthwhile. My language skills improved and I learned a great deal about Moroccan culture and history. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
There are honestly too many things to type up. My biggest takeaway is that the world is wider than you can imagine, and that with a little effort and extroversion you can discover things and people that will undoubtedly teach you in ways that no school or institutional can. The experience was 100% worthwhile. Naina Horning - Middlebury College View Entire Review
That I appreciate small classrooms. It was worthwhile because it made me experience things that were beyond my comfort zone. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
About
The Middlebury School in Morocco offers a fully immersive academic and cultural experience in the country's historic capital. Guided by the Middlebury Language Pledge, students commit to using Arabic throughout their time abroad, developing advanced language skills through rigorous coursework, daily interactions, and meaningful engagement with Moroccan communities. Participants gain firsthand insight into Morocco's rich cultural traditions, diverse history, and contemporary society.
For thousands of years, Morocco has served as a crossroads of civilizations, shaped by the exchange of Berber, Arab, African, and European peoples, languages, traditions, and ideas. This remarkable cultural diversity is reflected in the country's architecture, cuisine, arts, and social life, making Morocco an exceptional setting for students seeking a deeper understanding of the Arabic-speaking world.
Located on Morocco's Atlantic coast where the Bou Regreg River meets the ocean, Rabat is a vibrant and welcoming capital city of more than one million residents. Combining centuries of history with the energy of a modern political and cultural center, Rabat offers students the opportunity to experience everyday Moroccan life while exploring historic landmarks, bustling markets, museums, and coastal neighborhoods. Middlebury's partner institution, Mohammed V University, founded in 1957 as Morocco's first modern university, provides students with a dynamic academic environment and opportunities to engage with Moroccan peers.
