This was one of those not-so-great study abroad experiences. Past Review

Middlebury Schools Abroad: Middlebury in Santiago

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned a lot about Chilean marine and terrestrial life through my marine biology courses and internship, and of course learned a new dialect of Spanish. However I would not say my semester was particularly worthwhile.

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Only satisfied after switching host families to one of my choosing. My first family that Middlebury paired me with was not at all a good fit.

* Food:

While there were some aspects I liked about Chile, overall I did not have a great time. I especially struggled with host family living, the rainy climate, and lack of food culture.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
