SIT Study Abroad: Iceland - Climate Change and the Arctic

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned how to travel alone, how to budget, how to cook, and how to knit. I got to see everything that I possibly could in Iceland, and I loved everything. It was so worthwhile!

I loved every second, and even when I was homesick, I was so grateful for the chance to be homesick, because that meant that I was doing something so cool. I loved the professors and learning from Icelanders, I loved my curious and silly peers, I loved exploring the city, I loved seeing the entire country with a mix of community and global influences, I loved feeling like a local, I loved the colors of the houses, the twinkle lights, the coffee, and the fog. I loved what we were learning and how I felt connected to my class. I loved hostel-hopping, I loved making my own dinners, I loved movie nights and hikes. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

It was barely enough, but it was enough! I did spend lots of personal money on souvenirs.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
