The ability to ask thoughtful and real life questions about how to accomplish difficult tasks like completing a month long research project in an unfamiliar place in an unfamiliar language with unfamiliar people in an unfamiliar culture. I learned to be resilient. I learned the importance of the inclusion of the developing world... Evan Y - Middlebury College View Entire Review
This program was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I learned so much about Coastal Ecology and Natural Resource Management and about the local culture. I also grew as a person. The SIT Staff pushed me to do things outside of my comfort zone, which allowed me to produce an ISP project that I would not have thought possi... A student - Gettysburg College View Entire Review
I learned a lot from being immersed in a culture that is so different from mine and gained a deeper understanding of my material through experiential learning. I also learned a lot about the implications of research through my ISP and learned a lot about myself through the independence of this project. Caroline Daley - Middlebury College View Entire Review

Independence. Increased my love for Africa and the culture. It was completely worth while and I would do it 10x over. I gained new friends from across the country and experiences no one else can say they have ever had. There are memories only I hold and they are priceless. Honestly I learned too much to document succinctly. In summary I'll say that learning took place across many dimensions - academic, cultural, emotional, technical, anthropologic, inter-personal, observational, etc. It was certainly worthwhile. I gained confidence, biology skills, and the ability to navigate in social situations where culture and language are not my own. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I don't think I can even begin to summarize what I learned in this little box. It was more than worthwhile and I don't think I could've picked a better place to go to truly experience living abroad. Sara F - Brandeis University View Entire Review
Unbelievably worthwhile! Couldn't have asked for more. Learned about Zanzibar, Coastal Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Swahili, and so much more. Incredible opportunities for self-growth. Go to Zanzibar! John D - Washington University in Saint Louis View Entire Review
It was very worthwhile! I learned a ton and loved Zanzibar. It has motivated me to come back again and work here - which is largely a result of the great experience I had with SIT. Lydia K - University of Puget Sound View Entire Review
This program allowed me to better understand how to make the best out of situations. I wasn't satisfied with the academics or accessibility of cultural experiences in the program so I tried my best to relate to the other students and enjoy or field work. I also had the opportunity of going on a safari and diving after the prog... Jennifer S - Wellesley College View Entire Review
