SUNY Binghamton: Juan Dolio - Community Health in Dominican Republic
I was born in the Dominican Republic and lived there for part of my life, and many of the issues that I learn in this trip made me realized that I did not know my country very much. The experience that one gets from being there and seen everything happening cannot be replace by a TV news, newspaper, book, or a radio show. Learning and working with nurses at the clinic and hospital provided me with an insight view of how the nursing profession works in the Dominican Republic. During the seventeen-days, we were at the Esperanza clinic, Buen Pastor clinic, MUSA hospital, and did community visit in Santa Fe a poor community in San Pedro.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
I am very happy that I had the opportunity to be on this mission team. Many of the lessons I learn will stay with me for the rest of my life. It was truly an amazing experience. I would like to continue doing work like this because I feel that I can learn much more from others while I can give back to other less fortune than me. I was able see how truly blessed we are in the United States and how much we can learn from other that might have a different approach to nursing. I will never for get this trip because it put everything that I have learned in college from nursing and sociology into work. Thank you Laura for having this truly life changing program. |
