I would have loved to do this trip over again after I have gotten the NCLEX out of the way. The graduates would have been able to enjoy it more and appreciate more the breadth and depth of the cultural experience and knowledge that the instructor and community has to offer. I was born in the Dominican Republic and lived there for part of my life, and many of the issues that I learn in this trip made me realized that I did not know my country very much. It changed my life in the sense that it opened my eyes to things I knew existed, but it put emotions to reality as I spoke and interacted with those suffering and struggling in such horrid conditions. I made life long friends and gained life altering knowledge. I feel more wise. I feel like every day I want to become a better... Isabel R - SUNY - Binghamton View Entire Review
About
This course provides nursing students the opportunity for an academic international experience. Coursework will begin shortly before departure - students will receive several briefings to prepare them for the tropical environment. The following two weeks students are in the Dominican Republic where they work with clinicians from the United States and the Dominican Republic. This includes several days of nursing activities in a number of clinics supported by the Episcopal dioceses clinics. The students will also work at a major public regional medical center and make community health visits. The goal is to provide students with broad exposure to nursing in another culture and to practicing nursing in another language. The expectations are rigorous, as this is a six credit course.
