This program includes three tiers of activity. Tier ONE, the “Preparatory Phase,” will be taught for one week at Xavier and is designed to provide students with knowledge and experiences to enhance on-site learning occurrences in New Orleans and both Caribbean destinations. Tier TWO, the “Immersion Phase,” will be a full in-country ten day teaching and learning program conducted in Martinique, that will focus on the historical and cultural development of the countries. Tier THREE, the “Closing Phase,” will involve the return to New Orleans for a summary report on the experiences of the participating students. In both locations the design will consist of morning lectures and afternoon excursions. Participating students will earn 3 hours of academic credit toward a Xavier degree.
