Direct Enrollment/Exchange is a program provider offering 1872 abroad programs. Programs offered include Study Abroad, Internship, Volunteer, Intensive Language, Gap Year, Graduate Program, High School, Research, Online Program, TEFL Courses, and Adventure Travel abroad programs in 121 countries such as Spain, Costa Rica, Italy, and Ecuador.
Below you will find a directory of foreign universities and reviews from students who participated in an exchange, or in direct enrollment.
In a Direct Enrollment program, students have the option of applying directly to the university they wish to attend abroad. Students can go for either one or two semesters and apply using that university's application process listed for international students. Sometimes these students are called Visiting Students, Guest Students or Free Movers. At the foreign university, they will be supported by the university's office of international students, housed with other international students and have the opportunity not only to immerse in a foreign culture, but to do so with students from all over the world.
In an Exchange, you attend a foreign university and a foreign student attends your home university, a student swap for a semester or year. Your university will handle the details of the exchange, you just need to find the ideal foreign university. Hopefully the listings and reviews below can help you down that path. You will need to contact your university's study abroad department or your academic advisor for details on the exchange because the number of valid/active exchange partners may be very limited.

"I'm not sure"
A student Brandeis University
"I learned a considerable amount about the culture and political aspects of not only the United Kingdom, but also the entirety of the European Union. The significant academic knowledge I accumulated was but eclipsed by the genuine friendships I acquired and maintain to this day. The only regret I have regarding this program is ..."
A student Washington College
"Made a myriad of international friends whom I will never forget. You will make so many memories and learn a lot about yourself. Also it's the safest place I've ever lived in, which makes traveling all around very convenient and enjoyable. Just don't forget to engage in the local culture as well and, if you are studying Chinese, ..."
A student University of Connecticut
"I think it was entirely worthwhile and experiencing life abroad for a year instead of just one semester was much more valuable. I felt that I was truly living in the city and culture and got a better experience of immersion. Getting the chance to be abroad, travel and experience different cultures at this age is also something..."
A student Brandeis University
"Absolutely"
Eloise W Whitman College
"I learned that cultural dynamics often vary. What is taboo or sensitive to say in the US may not be the same in the UK. People are generally friendly wherever you go. Schools like SOAS are gems for diversity and cultural exchange."
Victoria Y Wellesley College
"While it may sound cliche, I did learn a lot about myself while abroad. From what is the most conducive learning environment for me to what my political views on certain issues really are, its hard to list out just how much I learned while abroad."
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"I learned how to be truly independent, how to meet new people who are completely different from myself and open up to them and how to view people and customs with an open mind. It was very worthwhile."
A student Brandeis University
"I became more independent and confident in myself."
A student Bentley University
"It's difficult to condense everything from my year abroad. I certainly learned a lot about myself and my capacity to deal with ambiguous situations or seek help from others. I did learning in the classroom, but much of the application happens outside of the classroom and both pieces were important. My study abroad experience sha..."
Katie P University of Florida
"I gained a great deal of perspective, because I was around students and others, none of whom were from anywhere near my home. I learned of different ways of life, I had never known existed beforehand."
A student University of Tulsa
"The academic experience at Oxford is amazing. It is definitely worthwhile. "
A student Middlebury College
"I enjoyed it immensely and it was definitely worthwhile."
A student Wellesley College
"It was difficult moving to a new place with little of the language and no one I knew! Though it took quite a while to settle in, I'm really grateful for the time I spent in Paris. Traveling around Europe was also life changing, very worthwhile!"
A student Wellesley College
"I enjoyed meeting other study abroad students from other schools and connecting with them, as well as having the ability to travel so easily. Experiencing a completely different education system was also very interesting, and I realized that I definitely prefer the American system. I'm really glad I studied abroad, but if I had ..."
A student Wellesley College
"All in all, my experience was very worthwhile. I had a great time, met wonderful people, and my Spanish really improved. I love Chile. But, my time was not without difficulties. The students in my university were striking for education reform for about 2 months, at the end of the semester. Classes were cancelled. It was stressfu..."
Grace K University of Maine - Orono
"I gained a sense of independence and problem solving abilities while abroad. It was worthwhile because of the friendships I formed, but would have found it more worthwhile as a program for an entire academic year rather than one term."
Donnie A Columbia College, Missouri
"A level of adaptability that I never would have found at home. I learned that I can live on my own anywhere. "
molly h The University of Texas at Austin
"I was presented with new ways to look at life, from both my classes and the people I met. I was also exposed to the idea of being more spontaneous and adventurous; this by the friends I made."
A student University of Maine - Orono
"I definitely became more independent and confident in myself while abroad! I also became much more interested in international relations and international environmental issues. I hope to bring both of these back to my life in the U.S.!"
Brooke R Rhodes College
"It definitely was worthwhile! I learned a lot about my ability to take care of myself. I also got to experience another culture: both university life and the work place "
A student University of Connecticut
"I gained and learned more than I could sum up in words. The amount of things opened up to me and within myself, as I understood my reactions to new things, are intangible. New settings in general have a way of shifting our routines and simply because of that, allow us to examine things we didn't know existed within us and befo..."
Tom H Anonymous University
"I learned to be adventurous and approach new situations with confidence. "
A student Brandeis University
"As cliche as it sounds, you learn so much about yourself. I didn't have some life-changing epiphany but I understand that I can survive by myself a long way from home. I learned about the perception others have about Americans. I also learned that people are really the same from all over the world. It was absolutely worthwhi..."
Brayden L University of Northern Iowa
"The world is big. It was worthwhile. "
