Direct Enrollment/Exchange is a program provider offering 1872 abroad programs. Programs offered include Study Abroad, Internship, Volunteer, Intensive Language, Gap Year, Graduate Program, High School, Research, Online Program, TEFL Courses, and Adventure Travel abroad programs in 121 countries such as Spain, Costa Rica, Italy, and Ecuador.
Below you will find a directory of foreign universities and reviews from students who participated in an exchange, or in direct enrollment.
In a Direct Enrollment program, students have the option of applying directly to the university they wish to attend abroad. Students can go for either one or two semesters and apply using that university's application process listed for international students. Sometimes these students are called Visiting Students, Guest Students or Free Movers. At the foreign university, they will be supported by the university's office of international students, housed with other international students and have the opportunity not only to immerse in a foreign culture, but to do so with students from all over the world.
In an Exchange, you attend a foreign university and a foreign student attends your home university, a student swap for a semester or year. Your university will handle the details of the exchange, you just need to find the ideal foreign university. Hopefully the listings and reviews below can help you down that path. You will need to contact your university's study abroad department or your academic advisor for details on the exchange because the number of valid/active exchange partners may be very limited.

"Very worthwhile, but more support in logistical things would have been very helpful--health care, housing (where to live, how to pay, etc.), which classes to take, how to study properly, how to transfer credit, etc."
Sadie W Truman State University
"My comprehension of french improved a ton. But my french overall saw a lot of improvement also. I got really close to a family (who's not my host family) and have great memories and friendships with them. You learn a lot overall. "
Tori S Truman State University
"This time abroad gave me some international experience that I will always be thankful for. It taught me to do more than just the bare minimum assigned reading for classes, and it also taught me to embrace trying new things. I found this trip very worthwhile. I got to meet new friends, try new experiences, and see a country th..."

"Being able to live independently, be responsible for cooking and getting to university everday"
A student University of Connecticut
"Edinburgh provided an amazing experience, forcing me to be an 'adult.' I lived, studied, and traveled abroad for 5 months. Although scary and daunting at times, study abroad made me more confident, made me more comfortable spending time alone, etc. Plus you meet some pretty great people, as well. "
Steven G Colby College
"Studying abroad was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Although being a "tourist" for 4 months is very challenging, it also helps you grow up and mature. I learned a lot about myself and my ability to cope in difficult situations. "
Karli B University of Maryland - College Park
"When I studied abroad it was the first time I felt like an adult. I loved the independence of having to figure everything out myself. I went completely alone, not knowing anyone from home who was going. I completely went outside my comfort zone and had to make a new group of friends, adjust to a completely new type of semester s..."
Nora M University of Connecticut
"Definitely learned a lot, learned more about what I like and want, and grew from being in an independent program/ dealing with crazy situations. The month long break was an awesome time for travel but that combined with the pound in the UK was expensive! Would probably go somewhere else if I could choose again but loved the camp..."
A student University of Connecticut
"The best part of studying in Rome was the ability to experience other cultures as long as you put in the effort. Rome is a very lived-in city, and we lived in an area without a touristy feel. The airport was very easy to get to, and I know that other places in Italy don't have the same luxury. Because of that, I was able to f..."
Kris F The American University of Rome
"I loved my experience abroad. I had a great time at AUR. The classes were interesting and engaging, the housing was a lot better than I anticipated, my roommates were great, and the opportunities were endless. I traveled throughout Italy and Europe and learned so much about myself and the world."
Lisamarie D Boston College
"An obvious benefit is being able to travel to many countries in Europe far more easily than trying to do it from the USA. From this ease of travel I’ve benefitted by experiencing many different pieces of history, people, their cultures, foods, opinions, and sights. It has really opened my eyes to a much bigger world. Having alr..."

A student SUNY - Stony Brook
"I gained maturity and self-confidence in my ability to problem solve, travel throughout the world, and much more. This was the most worthwhile thing I have ever done for myself. I truly came back to the States a changed and more grown up person. "
A student High Point University
"It was very fun and worthwhile, but I had a rough start. Traveling is the best part of my experience abroad."
Olivia B The College of New Jersey
"I learned a lot about myself which I think is a very important aspect of studying abroad "
A student Endicott College
"if I were studying art, Siena School could've been a good option, but for sustainability it was a sham. I learned to trust myself more and not take anyone too seriously. Essentially, I learned to be more self-reliant and independent."
A student Brandeis University
"My Chinese language skills and general knowledge of Chinese culture and politics improved significantly. And I made great friends over the semester! I would definitely do it again!"
A student University of Louisville
"Studying abroad was a great experience and an even better experience because of AUR. The school was so welcoming and extremely helpful when I first arrived as well as throughout the entire semester. AUR was the perfect fit because it was a small atmosphere filled with numerous different and diverse people. The school is located ..."
Jenna T Towson University
"I made some fantastic friends, and with them I got to experience a bit of British culture -- or British uni culture, at least. Also, experiencing a different academic system, one in which I was able to focus more specifically on my chosen field of study, was beneficial. Winchester is a charming, historic, safe, small city with a..."
Caroline H Berea College
"I learned a lot while studying abroad. This world is a magnificent place and I really hope that everybody gets a chance to explore it!"
Madeline S University of Maine - Orono
"Study abroad was the scariest, coolest, most thrilling and most fun thing I have ever done. I learned so much about my favorite culture and many others too. The things I learned while abroad are things I would never be able to learn at home and it's an opportunity of a lifetime. To travel on your own and be so independent at thi..."

"A semester abroad is full of learning about different cultures, yourself, life. I gained life long friends and lots of memories. As cliche as it sounds, it was the best decision of my life."
