Everything we do is about the IES Abroad student.
Created in 1950, we believe in crafting unforgettable, life-changing educational adventures that go beyond our students' expectations. Every year about 6,500 study abroad students choose IES Abroad for their authentic study and intern abroad experience.
Our work starta in our Chicago headquarters and spreads across more than 130 study abroad programs in more than 30+ locations worldwide. With this network, we develop authentic global education and life-affirming cultural experiences. We believe that studying abroad should be a part of every student's academic life, and we aim to not only provide study abroad opportunities, but to consistently maintain a friendly, fun, and safe academic and cultural environment.
We believe so firmly in the power of our academically superior programs, that we actively recruit students from diverse populations and pledges more than $5 million in scholarships year after year. We are proud that our students are as diverse and exciting as the countries we study.
Through IES Internships, we offer a variety of full-time semester and summer internships in 15 locations around the world. For more than 40 years, we've provided opportunities to intern in some of the world's most exciting cities. With IES Internships, you'll have a guaranteed placement, more on-the-job hours, dedicated assistance with résumés and interviewing skills, and the ability to network with other students.
How will study abroad redefine you? We can't wait to find out.

"Not only did I learn the language ad culture of Italians, but I also learned how to work with many different types of people. My abilities to be patient, understanding, openminded and willing to empathize really expanded. This experience was 100% worthwhile!"
Joy Kim Pennsylvania State University - University Park / Penn State

Sam Rosenberg University of Virginia
"Study Abroad was worthwhile. I learned the importance of getting to know everyone regardless of what they look like, what religion they practice, or what views they have. I also learned that the concept of family extends far beyond the ties of blood."
Destiny Sewell Sewanee: The University of the South
"I learned how to survive in an area where I was not fluent in the language. I also learned how to manage money, which is harder to do when it is a foreign currency that you're not familiar with. I also got better at making friends with people from other parts of the United States and of course, the world (having made friends wit..."
Joseph Esguerra Western Washington University
"In Morocco I learned that difference is the warmest reason for people to reach out and connect to each other. A little willingness to speak Darija, the local dialect, and every Moroccan I met wanted to have a conversation. My host family was my real family, with astounding hospitality I could never have expected. The religion I ..."
A student University of Vermont

A student Rhodes College
"I definitely learned how to be much more independent and also I became more confident in myself."

"I gained a lot of independence and learned how to fill my free time with things of purpose. This was the first time I had no clubs or requirements and could do anything I wanted. I utilized the time to find out what I am really passionate about, what makes me happy, and started to self-motivate myself to go out and do it without..."

"I gained a better sense of myself, as well as a better sense of the world at large. I gained wisdom, friends, and experience. But the real gains are intangible, and hard to name with a single word--sort of intrinsic feelings of being wider, somehow, and deeper; of having one's world widened. It was most definitely worthwhile."
Cassidy Clayton University of Rochester
"It was completely worthwhile. I learned about how history has shaped the Austrian society's concepts of race, politics, education, and social living. "I learned a lot about various aspects of Japanese society and culture and got to experience many of them firsthand. I think one of my favorite things I did was being ..."
