Study Abroad with IES Abroad
"Learned about how much exists outside of our spectrum. It's easy to forget that we are part of such a global community. The trip made me appreciate everything I take for granted in the US."
Benjamin J The University of Texas at Austin
"I learned to be independent, to figure out how to navigate and feel at home in a big city, and to balance school work with fun. It was most definitely a worthwhile use of my summer. "
A student Brandeis University
"I learned to love my life. To never be suicidal. To follow my dreams. Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Italian are languages I am currently now practicing. I fell in love. Found the love of my life. Fell in love with Salvador Dali's art. Met life long friends. And will definitely be moving back to Barcelona to live my li..."
Maia Q Trinity University
"I learned how to communicate when I did not know words in another language, and how to navigate a city with a very complex public transportation system. "
A student Trinity University
"It was life-changing. The people in my program were some of the best friends I have ever made. I feel like Amsterdam is my home and I will definitely live there some day. It is safe, fun, has lots to offer during the day, parks, canals, bikes, it is paradise."
A student Trinity University
"I believe that studying abroad is one of the most incredible experiences that someone my age can have. The very act of leaving home and going somewhere where everything is new will challenge you and help you grow in ways that you did not think were possible. Add to that the culture and, in my case, the language of the other coun..."
A student Presbyterian College
"It really taught me to be independent and put myself out there"
A student Trinity University
"I learned about the history of Rome, from ancient to modern times and everything in between. And while I was abroad, I got to travel around Italy and to several other countries. It gave me a new perspective on the world and instilled a desire to see as much of it as I can. I will never forget the memories I made and the friends ..."

"I gained independence."
A student Trinity University
"I learned a lot about Spain and Catalunya in particular and a lot about independence. I would do it all over again! And again, and again...."
A student Trinity University
"I learned a lot about myself, daily lifestyle of the Japanese, and a lot of Japanese. I gained many memories, experiences, and a family. It was most definitely worthwhile. "
A student Austin College
"I learned a lot academically, socially, but mostly about myself. I learned a lot from the different professors I interacted with, and I learned the most from my boss (internship boss). More than anything else, I learned not to sweat the small stuff, to be adventurous and open to new ideas especially if I had never considered the..."
Samantha D Brandeis University
"I learned about Europe. I was worthwhile. "
A student Wellesley College
"Although I cannot properly articulate all the lessons I've learned from studying abroad,I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to study abroad. There are many things you learn about yourself, your relation to other people, and your small role in the world when you study abroad-- and it makes all the difference."
Diana D Austin College
"My experience abroad was great and Buenos Aires is the coolest place to go. South America is very different than Europe but that is what makes it interesting. You can easily travel to Chile and hike or ski (in the summer). There are a lot of outdoor things to do. Buenos Aires is also a huge city with tons of city things to do as..."
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"Falling in love with Quito was worth every bit of heartache along the way and every bit of heartache afterwards. As cheesy as it may sound, I learned a lot about myself - about who I am and about what my place in the world may be. A few months in, I had the revelation that I will always be Me, no matter where I am. Moving to a p..."
Brooke G Trinity University
"Everything. Independence, language skills, friends, maturity, initiative. It was worthwhile, but if I could do it again I'd choose a program that encourages and allows for even more independence - maybe a direct enrollment program. But that's a reflection of my own desires, not a fault of the program. It does what it does well."
A student Wellesley College
"-sense of independence -decision to take Japanese more seriously Overall the experience was worthwhile, but not necessarily because of IES Abroad."
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"I learned that I can survive out in the world on my own and I'm capable of making friends from other countries without knowing the language fluently. I'm also way better with directions than my mom ever thought I was. It's exactly what I wanted and I've wanted to go to Japan since middle school."
Heather C The University of Texas at Austin
"I learned how to be open minded considering the students I went with."
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"The ability to communicate and understand another culture."
A student Wellesley College
"There's so much more to this world than our small bubbles. "
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"Amazing. "
A student Trinity University
"There's a reason why there's over 7 billion on this planet and not a single match of fingerprints. Everyone is different, so you should expand out of your bubble and discover what's out there. You'll be surprised to see just how intertwined the world really is. If I were to call this experience worthwhile, that would be one of t..."

"Japan is a modernized country. Its easy to navigate and live there and learning and using Japanese is fun. If living conditions were better I'd have enjoyed it more. All the RAs and coordinators were fantastic! Aside from the head coordinator in Japan, Friday or whatever his name was. He doesn't do anything for the program."
Brandon O The University of Texas at Austin
