Everything we do is about the IES Abroad student.
Created in 1950, we believe in crafting unforgettable, life-changing educational adventures that go beyond our students' expectations. Every year about 6,500 study abroad students choose IES Abroad for their authentic study and intern abroad experience.
Our work starta in our Chicago headquarters and spreads across more than 130 study abroad programs in more than 30+ locations worldwide. With this network, we develop authentic global education and life-affirming cultural experiences. We believe that studying abroad should be a part of every student's academic life, and we aim to not only provide study abroad opportunities, but to consistently maintain a friendly, fun, and safe academic and cultural environment.
We believe so firmly in the power of our academically superior programs, that we actively recruit students from diverse populations and pledges more than $5 million in scholarships year after year. We are proud that our students are as diverse and exciting as the countries we study.
Through IES Internships, we offer a variety of full-time semester and summer internships in 15 locations around the world. For more than 40 years, we've provided opportunities to intern in some of the world's most exciting cities. With IES Internships, you'll have a guaranteed placement, more on-the-job hours, dedicated assistance with résumés and interviewing skills, and the ability to network with other students.
How will study abroad redefine you? We can't wait to find out.

Study Abroad with IES Abroad
"I learned a lot about how to learn from different teaching styles and I wouldn't change anything about my semester abroad."
Scott V University of the Pacific
"I think the fact that I made 0 French friends my entire time there says it all. Paris was a great place to study, but IES Paris is not a good program in any way, and I strongly advise against it. I had just done IES Tokyo and loved it so I was shocked that it was so different; I should have done more research."
A student Austin College
"I would do it over and over and over again. It was the best, I learned so much about myself and more of what I want out of life. "
A student Bentley University
"Because I spoke so little Japanese when I arrived in Japan, I learned to quickly adapt to new situations, even when I did not entirely understand what was happening. I learned to befriend people from a very different culture than my own and to appreciate the strengths and weaknesses of each culture. I obviously gained a great de..."
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"I learned how to depend on myself more, I learned about the ecuadorian culture, and greatly improved my Spanish."
Colbie D Trinity University
"I learned an incredible amount about myself, the Spanish language and Latin American politics. I think most importantly I learned how to be adventurous while being safe."
Lucas B Trinity University
"I developed a deeper love of German culture, greatly improved my language skills, became more independent and met the most amazing friends who are still in my life a year later! This was the best decision that I could have made!"
Rachel J College of Charleston
"Learned how to be independent and deal with stressful issues like navigating foreign cities, transportation screw ups, day-to-day living. yes, it was very worthwhile."
Hillary K Trinity University
"It was absolutely worthwhile. I would never trade it. "
Chelsea T William Jewell College
"I gained a new perspective on the world beyond what I have experienced living in the US"
Nick G Bentley University
"I feel I became a much more mature and independent person from the experience. I walked away with a lot of fun memories and an appreciation for the "Berlin life style" if you can claim that such a thing even exists. Going to Berlin was definitely one of the best decisions I've made, and I'd like to go back again one day. "
A student Austin College
"It was definitely worthwhile. I gained a new perception on life and business especially that has actually changed the way i approach every day decisions."
Matthew S Pennsylvania State University - University Park
"I learned a lot of German, got more confident when speaking and gained a lot of knowledge about German life and culture - which is exactly what I wanted to gain from the program. However, one of the best things about this program were all the people I met. We were about 40 Americans, from all over the US, and at the end we were ..."
Katja E Tufts University
"I learned about myself, particularly my perseverance. I gained self-confidence, improved language skill and skills needed to live in a big city. "
A student Santa Clara University
" I would highly recommend the teaching internships offered, where you go into Austrian schools and learn firsthand about the average life of a person who may not be too much younger than you and come to understand the similarities and differences between your life and theirs."
Sam G University of Rochester
"I gained a broader sense of self and the confidence that I can overcome any obstacle. I have truly grown as a person and feel like I'm now ready for the real world, whereas before study abroad I relied a lot on my friends and family."
A student Villanova University
"More than can be written in this text box. It was totally worthwhile"
A student William Jewell College
"It was worthwhile, but really, really challenging!"
Annie B William Jewell College
"I learned a lot about the language and the Japanese people as well as their culture. I already had an idea about what it would be like but was shown I knew very little. I also learned that there is much to appreciate about all cultures and that there are good and bad with both. Finally, despite the clashing differences, there wa..."
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"I learned more about Italian language and culture and got a really great internship out of it."
Julian C Brandeis University
"Totally worthwhile "
A student Bentley University
"Intercultural understanding and being able to experience how people live in Europe."
Patrick C Bentley University
"Its so difficult to organize what I learned from my experience abroad but it was most definitely worth while. I learned so much more about the language and culture of Spain than I could have imagined. Speaking the language and being surrounded by others speaking it made me happy. I learned so much about the cultural differences ..."
A student Villanova University
"There is so much that I have gained and learned that there is not the time or room to explain it all. It was absolutely worthwhile. "
Catherine L The University of Texas at Austin
"A new perspective for living in America and all the opportunities offered to us that we take for granted. Also some direction for my life post graduation realizing that there are many more possibilities than I originally believed ie travel, living abroad, peace corps etc. (not just obtaining a corporate job)."
