Everything we do is about the IES Abroad student.
Created in 1950, we believe in crafting unforgettable, life-changing educational adventures that go beyond our students' expectations. Every year about 6,500 study abroad students choose IES Abroad for their authentic study and intern abroad experience.
Our work starta in our Chicago headquarters and spreads across more than 130 study abroad programs in more than 30+ locations worldwide. With this network, we develop authentic global education and life-affirming cultural experiences. We believe that studying abroad should be a part of every student's academic life, and we aim to not only provide study abroad opportunities, but to consistently maintain a friendly, fun, and safe academic and cultural environment.
We believe so firmly in the power of our academically superior programs, that we actively recruit students from diverse populations and pledges more than $5 million in scholarships year after year. We are proud that our students are as diverse and exciting as the countries we study.
Through IES Internships, we offer a variety of full-time semester and summer internships in 15 locations around the world. For more than 40 years, we've provided opportunities to intern in some of the world's most exciting cities. With IES Internships, you'll have a guaranteed placement, more on-the-job hours, dedicated assistance with résumés and interviewing skills, and the ability to network with other students.
How will study abroad redefine you? We can't wait to find out.

"I've gained so much appreciation for Austria. So much of our world's art and music have come from this country, and I didn't know how much of it did before. As a musician, it is really beneficial I think, to see how a society puts so much emphasis and has so much support for the arts. I think it will help me advocate for them in..."

"Berlin is definitely one of the best cities I have lived in my life. Every week there is a festival, a concert, a parade or something going on. There is so much culture in Berlin that one is able to try something of every country. For example, I decided to learn Portuguese and take capoeira lessons. It is great to know that ther..."

"I now have a global view of the connection between America and Europe. I would love to go back. I learned so much about how to make new friendships and experience new things. A++++"
Andy M University of Arkansas - Fayetteville
"I gained so much cultural awareness and independence. I learned how to cope with uncertain situations and adapt to change. Study abroad helped me grow and develop as a person in many ways. "

"Yes, it was a lifetime experience I would never forget."
Ked T Belhaven College
"I have decided against teaching foreign language, due to my internship experience, and now am more focused on my goal of working with an NGO. I am grateful for this because I can now narrow my options and will not be committed to a year or more of a job that does not suit me. "
Katie H Austin College
"I came back with a newfound confidence, not only in my French-speaking abilities but in my ability to function in another country. You have to put yourself out there when you're abroad, and at times you'll feel vulnerable and afraid but seeing yourself rise to the occasion and overcome those hurdles is what's really worth it in ..."

"This is a loaded question. Granada taught me to relax a little more and to enjoy life a lot more. It exposed me to the joys of different cultures and made me a more globally aware citizen. Granada forced me to speak Spanish and, though it was extremely difficult (and downright awkward at times), I persevered and am so much the b..."

"Because this was my first time abroad, I had no idea what to expect, so I went in with an open mind. And now, although I am still greatly interested in Japan, I have a desire to visit and experience as many cultures as possible"
Tiara T Illinois Wesleyan University
"I'm Type-A and am a leader and like to be in control, but the most important lessons I learned were about how to relax, embrace a new culture, be a team player, roll with the punches and adapt to the unexpected, and view life in terms of "big picture" concepts making me reevaluate my priorities. "
Sarah M Providence College
"I think quite simply it just opened me up much more and exposed me to a world I didn't know existed. It not only expanded my personal boundaries by forcing me to change, adapt, and extend my comfort zone, but also my boundaries of the world. I had never really even left Minnesota much before, and here I was in a foreign land. ..."

"It was completely worth while! Everyone should study abroad and I think people in college who never got the chance will regret it. I learned so much about myself and other cultures. It opens your eyes to new experiences and you gain great friendships. I become more outgoing and understanding. I have always loved traveling and it..."

"My study abroad experience encouraged me to pursue Spanish as a second major upon returning to my home institution. I returned with a new perspective and a strength in international knowledge. My plans for this summer include working for an investment manager in its global department, which was clinched by my experience with Spa..."

"The worst thing about the study abroad experience was the PEOPLE in the program. We just didn't click.. people coming to study in Paris are just not people I would hang out with at home. It was an absolutely amazing experience being here and doing the program, I just would suggest looking up the people you'll be studying with be..."

"This experience reinforced my desire to become a diplomat or a representative for the U.S. in Europe. In addition, Germany definitely increased my interest in immigration issues. In fact, I hope to return to Germany soon, to continue to study German identity and immigration. "

"Studying abroad was definitely fun, but I wouldn't really coin it as a life changing experience. Honestly it really just felt like a glorified vacation. It was a blast, don't get me wrong, but the University was easy, and I didn't really face too many great challenges that I had to overcome."
William N Austin College
"Yes it was completely worth while. I met a ton of amazing people, saw amazing world-known buildings and art work. It was a fantastic experience and now I can say that I live in Paris for 4 months!"
