"In terms of academics, I learned a great deal about Jordan and the MENA region in terms of political, social, and cultural dynamics. I gained insights from some of Jordan's top thinkers and policymakers, and learned how to negotiate some of these issues with my own skills. My Arabic improved, especially functional/survival use t..."
Nora Kenyon College
"It was definitely worthwhile! I learned about the cultures of the countries we lived in, and about how they approach issues of public health, government, diplomacy, etc. This was very beneficial to me in terms of thinking about future career paths. I continued to learn how the rest of the world views the US, which is not the way..."

"Yes, this program helped me focus on Peace and Conflict Studies and the Balkans region better than I could at my home institution. The independent research project experience was very enjoyable and helpful for my Honors Thesis. "
A student Macalester College

Allegra B Macalester College
"Overall, I had mixed feelings about the semester. As parts of the overall experience ranged from amazing, insightful, and inspiring, to stifling, irrelevant, and narrow minded, it's safe to say it was a real roller-coaster ride. The Balkans are an incredible place full of every kind of person imaginable, awe-inspiring sights, an..."
A student University of Michigan - Ann Arbor
"I knew nothing about Middle Eastern culture except for the stereotypes Americans have towards Islamic culture. I wanted to change that. I want to dispel those stereotypes and gain a true understanding of the Middle East, and the best way to do so is by going there. My time in the SIT Geopolitics program was the perfect gateway t..."

"I learned to accept that there is no one truth or answer. Across different cultural contexts, similar issues may emerge, and while it is our responsibility to challenge these issues, we need to acknowledge people will have different perspectives. You will become more inquisitive, and learn to ask better questions over the course..."
Cassandra M University of Richmond
"Gained worldly exposure, learned from experts of humanitarian crises, had access to the UN European Headquarters in Geneva. Also was able to learn firsthand while living in a village in Morocco for a week - hands down a once in a lifetime experience!"
Shauna N The University of Texas at Austin
"This program really taught me perspective. The academics were really interesting, and I learned a lot about climate change, but the main focus was climate justice. We learned that everything is intersectional, and climate change is both a threat and a threat multiplier. This program truly changed the way I look at the issues fac..."

" I am so thankful for the depth of cultural immersion in this program, such as living with Nepalese homestay families who spoke limited English and being able to develop my language skills so much that I scored an Advanced Low on the OPI.
