"Beyond worthwile"
Lily G Tufts University
"I experienced an incredible amount of personal growth on my program. "
Shaomin C Harvard University
"I’m torn by this question because in some ways my study abroad experience was worthwhile, but in some ways it wasn’t. Having already traveled around Africa, I think if I was given the opportunity to choose again, I might’ve preferred an exchange program. For the amount of money my family paid, I wish I had more cultural immersio..."
Ashley W The University of Texas at Austin
"My experience with Brazil was incredible. I connected with the local culture, became fluent in Portuguese and made many friends. But this had nothing to do with the SIT program. The program was very frusterating, disorganized and many of the activities were an absolute waste of time. Our final projects were poorly monitored ..."
Kathryn S Trinity University
"Yes it was completely worth the money for the people that I met, the experiences I had, the places I saw, and the life long friends that I made."
Claire J The University of Texas at Austin
"Absolutely. I learned so much more by living in Serbia and traveling to Kosovo, Bosnia, and Croatia than I could have in any course or book. Having the opportunity to design and conduct my own research project was also invaluable. I learned how challenging and rewarding fieldwork can be and was able to create original research o..."
Julieta C The University of Texas at Austin
"I really can't elaborate on this in a coherrent way. It was an incredible experience tha all college aged individuals should do"
matt H Providence College
"My experience abroad confirmed my love of travel, cultures and experiencing new things. I know now that I can live outside of the United States, navigate public transportation in a foreign country, become conversant in another language and have an amazing time doing it! After coordinating meetings, listening to lectures and writ..."
Taylor J The University of Texas at Austin
"Culturally, this program was challenging because it was difficult to get to know local Swiss people in such a short period of time (3.5 mo.). It wasn't until the program was almost over that I was able to begin forming true friendships with Swiss people in my village. Academically, this program only touched the surface of many..."
Lauren C Hope College
"Yes it was. I made some great life long friends!"
Tiamo K DePauw University
"I've decided that I will not be a reasearcher and that I would LOVE to work with people in an environmental context. This program helped to strengthen my belief in social activism."
Genea F Wellesley College
"With SIT, you learn a lot inside and outside of the class. All of the lessons are very interactive. For example, when learning about the economy we visited various mines, talked to miners, as well as high level mining engineers. "
Lisa D The University of Texas at Austin
"My experience was more than worthwhile, and it absolutely altered my future plans. But I can't reveal everything I learned because it would be like giving away the ending. You have to see it for yourself. "
Rachel E Hope College
"It was definitely worthwhile and rewarding, but I did have certain complaints about the program. I was pretty sure of what I wanted to do with my future prior to the program, and the program confirmed my goals. I want to study anthropology at the graduate level, and having field research experience will definitely be an asset ..."
Shannon W Wellesley College
"I learned about myself, my place in a natural and cultural context, and I learned what I want to do with the rest of my life. This is an inspiring program and it changes people's lives."
Celeste A The University of Texas at Austin
"Absolutely."
Ashley W Barnard College
"I want to return to the Balkans, and I'm sure that I will. That changes my future plans, since I hadn't been sure before if I'd want to live abroad. I think I do want to spend some years in Belgrade now that I've been there."
Suzanne M Tufts University
"I loved learning about sustainability, I loved Australia, I loved our group. It was a risk for me doing this program because I was an art major with only one previous environmental science class (I am now majoring in both art and environmental science), not particularly interested in camping, but I wanted something different out..."
Johanna K Bard College
"It was worthwhile because of the language component, and the places I got to visit. It was interesting because I got a different perspective on environmental studies."
Julia W Wellesley College
"Yes, but because the people made it so. The program has a lot of potential and will hopefully improve upon its weaknesses, but know that you will ultimate create your own experience on IHP."
Marly F Barnard College
"I wish it had been longer. The only thing I missed for real was my family back home. I really got to see the French view, and understand their manners of thinking, as well as the stereotypes we have in the US on France - some are true, and I now understand how others developed. And, with all my notes and readings, I got to le..."
Hannah D Austin College
"yes. "
Linden M Bard College
"YES. See above. I badly want to go back and volunteer with the orgs I worked with during study abroad, as well as live and work and travel for a while before grad school. Phenomenal time in my life and I will forever have part of my heart in Argentina."
Kaela D Trinity University
"I've learned so much about myself. I itch to go back to Morocco all the time, not because I didn't do enough, but because I want to do it all over again! I worked at a boarding school in a mountain village called Talaat N'Yacoub. I was cold, sick, borderline hypothermic, but surrounded by girls who really, really wanted to get a..."

"Absolutely. I am thankful for every single experience I had while studying away. "
