We offer three scholarship opportunities for students attending SSA programs in Argentina, Puerto Rico, Panama and Spain — the Spanish Heritage Speaker, Diversity, and Pell Grant Scholarships. Students may apply for only one of these options per term. SSA scholarships are exclusively available to participants in SSA programs (applications from students in non-SSA or faculty-led programs will not be considered).

This scholarship is especially designed for students from diverse backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in study abroad including, but not limited to the areas of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, age, religion, disabilities, as well as first generation students and non-traditional students.

Guidelines/Requirements:
In this essay, share a moment when you encountered a different perspective or culture. How did this impact your understanding of the world or yourself and what will you take from this and use during your study abroad experience? Cumulative GPA Requirement: 3.0 GPA Students may apply for the Spanish Heritage Speaker, Diversity, or Pell Grant Scholarship prior to their acceptance in an SSA program, but only accepted students may receive a scholarship. Receipt of an SSA scholarship, as with all scholarship awards, may affect your overall financial aid package at your home institution. Late scholarship applications will not be considered. No exceptions. Students who are part of customized group programs/faculty-led programs through their home universities are not eligible for scholarships. Essay entries should be between 400 and 500 words and written in English. Please include your name, program, and home school in the top right-hand corner, and submit your completed scholarship application to info@ssabroad.org with “Diversity Scholarship Essay,” “Spanish Heritage Speaker Scholarship Essay,” or “Pell Grant Scholarship Essay” in the subject.

This scholarship supports Spanish Heritage Speakers who are pursuing study abroad opportunities with SSA to deepen their cultural connections, enhance their language skills and gain global perspectives through international education.
