Western Michigan University (WMU) is dedicated to providing students with transformative global learning opportunities through its Study Abroad programs, administered by the Haenicke Institute for Global Education. With more than 90 study abroad programs in over 40 countries, WMU gives students the chance to broaden their academic perspectives, immerse themselves in new cultures, and develop the skills necessary to thrive in an interconnected world.

Programs range from semester and academic year exchanges to faculty-led short-term experiences during summer and spring break. Students can choose from a wide variety of academic disciplines, with options for courses taught in English as well as language immersion opportunities. The Study Abroad Office provides individualized advising, financial guidance, and comprehensive support to ensure a rewarding and successful experience.

Through study abroad, WMU students gain cultural competence, adaptability, and global awareness—preparing them to be engaged leaders and professionals in today’s international workforce.
