Austin College
University Information
Austin College's Center for Global Learning facilitates Semester Abroad Studies and JanTerms. If a student would like to spend a semester abroad with Austin College, the he/she should stop by our office (Wright Campus Center #204) to begin the process. It is extremely important to go through the process in the office, otherwise the College will be unable to send the student's financial aid to the program and the student will need to withdraw from Austin College during their semester or year abroad. The Center's goal is to make each student's experience abroad a meaningful and engaging experience. In order for that to happen, students are required to go through the process in place at the Center.
We look forward to working with you and please read about other student's reviews and experiences at the different programs and locations that can be found at Abroad101.
Important Dates and Deadlines
As of right now, there are no firm deadlines in place for you to complete the Abroad101 Survey. However, before we can post your transcript from your sojourn abroad, you must complete the Abroad101 Survey and interview with the director (Truett Cates).
Thank you very much for your help and cooperation with this. We look forward to hearing about your time and experiences abroad!
"I learned a lot about myself. What I appreciated in life, who was most important to me, and what my priorities were. "

"I learned not only the language and about the culture but about myself and grew much more confident in my own abilities to do things. After living, surviving, and thriving in such a strange place, I now know that I can succeed in my endeavors back home. "
A student Austin College
"I learned a lot about myself and relating to other people from different cultures as well as my own. I learned how to be self-reliant but also made some of the best friends of my life. "

"There were ups and downs during my trip but all-in-all, it was an amazing experience. I would definitly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about the Renaissance since Florence is where it all started. Also, Florence is pretty central so you can get to most places in Italy for a reasonable price, but traveling to other cou..."

"I think the fact that I made 0 French friends my entire time there says it all. Paris was a great place to study, but IES Paris is not a good program in any way, and I strongly advise against it. I had just done IES Tokyo and loved it so I was shocked that it was so different; I should have done more research."

"I liked living in England. That in and of itself was a valueable experience but I did not learn more than I had already known. I would not go as a student. "
A student Austin College
"I feel I became a much more mature and independent person from the experience. I walked away with a lot of fun memories and an appreciation for the "Berlin life style" if you can claim that such a thing even exists. Going to Berlin was definitely one of the best decisions I've made, and I'd like to go back again one day. "

"I learned about a different culture and a different way of living, but I also learned about a lot of things that we had in common too. I explored a brand new country with its own deep history. It was totally worthwhile and I will carry the experience with me for the rest of my life."

"The trips were fun and my Spanish did improve a slight bit but I was incredibly stressed out by how inadequately I was doing in classes and felt like I had little emotional support while there."

"While abroad, I learned a lot about Welsh culture, what is means to be "British", and how America is viewed by the UK. I gained more confidence in myself. I would have never thought that I could remove myself from everything and everyone I know and thrive the way that I did. I feel like I've gained a more worldwide perspective r..."

"I learned to appreciate what I had at home. I also learned a great deal about the local British culture how much it differed from ours. I learned how to adequately live on my own, without all the amenities. I feel that this experience was one of the best learning experiences of my life and was very much worthwhile."

"I have such a better understanding and appreciation for all Asian cultures. I am still discovering things that I visited or saw in China that I didn't understand at the time, but have such amazing significance to history or the world today."

"Aside from language skills, my time spent volunteering gave me so many insights that I may never be able to enumerate fully. I gained a more complete world perspective and a new understanding of both my own culture and the cultures in Peru. It was 100% worthwhile. "

"The biggest thing I gained from this program is independence in a foreign country. It's intimidating at first when you are wondering about a country and not understand what people are saying around you. However, you learn how to get around independently and develop basic conversation with individuals. I wouldn't trade thi..."
