University Information
The Office of Study Abroad supports Brandeis students who participate on any of our 300 approved programs in some 65 different countries around the world.
On average 40% of the junior class studied abroad during the academic year while still more students took advantage of various international opportunities in the summer. There is a huge diversity of transformative experiences that Brandeis students have engaged in abroad including studying biodiversity conservation hands on in Panama, conducting ethnographic research on sacred figures in Mongolia, interning with Parliament in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, and interning in special education classrooms in Sydney, Australia to name a few.
Whatever your story, journey or adventure is destined to be, come by our office to learn more about the steps to going away!
Additionally, by logging in to Abroad101, all approved programs will be tagged with an "Approved" badge.

"my experience was amazing, especially the independent study project component where I had the opportunity to conduct my own research project on women's roles in families and how it affects their overall health and well-being in a specific neighborhood; through my interviews with women and other academic directors, I improved on ..."

"Beyond worthwhile. Learning about other cultures and getting outside of the American bubble is indispensable. All of the friends I made, the amazing sites I was lucky enough to observe and the beautiful Barcelona which became my home will forever be ingrained in my memory. "

"I gained so much abroad--greater independence, greater appreciation for other cultures and religions and world views. I'm less afraid of the unknown, of Turkish toilets, of dirty things. I've gained a love of bargaining and Moroccan spices and espresso. I've gained friends--American and Moroccan--with whom I am determined to ..."

"Incredibly worthwhile!!! I became so much more independent after studying abroad, and met so many interesting people. At first I was quite shy, but it got better after meeting some people! The classes were the least part of my experience, peehaps unsurprisingly."
Rosanne Brandeis University
"While most Americans became really close with other Americans abroad and they traveled together and took really cool photos all over Europe, I chose to join a sports team instead. While this took up much of my time, it was most definitely worth it. I feel that I made lasting connections with local students through the team and..."

"Greater knowledge of South Africa as a country, particularly health issues, skills in carrying out primary research, greater knowledge of my abilities to handle challenging situations and of my strengths and weaknesses"

"Being abroad teaches you that no matter who they are or where they are from, all people have a lot in common and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. It also teaches you independence and gives you confidence in new situations. New Zealand gave me a real love of adventure and forced me to do things I never thought I would. "

"I liked having the opportunity to take what we had learned in class and apply it to the real world with study tours. Visiting other countries with my core class was an amazing experience. It was worthwhile for the reason that I was able to learn more and different things than I have at home. I like learning and experiencing othe..."

"I fell in love with an amazing part of the world, that is extremely misunderstood in the United States. I got to meet amazing people, and make contacts that I can rely on forever. I came away so confident in what I could do academically and my ability to join this world after I graduate. I've made a lot of decisions about what I..."

"I significantly improved my Hebrew from the program itself. Because the program was not so "programmed", and I had been to the country many times before, it allowed me to explore the country on my own in ways I had not had time to or been allowed to in the past. It was definitely worthwhile."

"I learned even more how to be independent, get comfortable with living in a city and traveling on my own in a city. I also learned so much about forensic anthropology and really want to continue learning more. This program was definitely worthwhile and meshed well with the rural, adventurous program I picked for my semester, sin..."
