University Information
The Office of Study Abroad supports Brandeis students who participate on any of our 300 approved programs in some 65 different countries around the world.
On average 40% of the junior class studied abroad during the academic year while still more students took advantage of various international opportunities in the summer. There is a huge diversity of transformative experiences that Brandeis students have engaged in abroad including studying biodiversity conservation hands on in Panama, conducting ethnographic research on sacred figures in Mongolia, interning with Parliament in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, and interning in special education classrooms in Sydney, Australia to name a few.
Whatever your story, journey or adventure is destined to be, come by our office to learn more about the steps to going away!
Additionally, by logging in to Abroad101, all approved programs will be tagged with an "Approved" badge.

"-Embarrassment is a key motivator to learning a new language -It won't be easy to live in Tokyo for a gaijin, so you shouldn't slack off -You meet the most interesting people in unexpected places"

"This experience was incredibly worthwhile. I gained the internship experience of working in the House of Lords and also just the experience of studying in London - and perhaps most importantly from my perspective, the personal growth to be able to do things on my own, such as travel, study, and other experiences."

"I learned how to adapt to new cultures, I learned how to accept different systems of education and growing up and how to work with them, I learned how I fit into the world as a American world citizen, and I learned how to make and keep friendships that I like to think will last even across an ocean!"

"I learned a lot of Spanish. It was a good experience."

"I learned what I have to sacrifice to get what I want. As a student abroad, it was my decision that brought me there and only my effort could make it a good experience -- who in Japan was really going to take responsibility for my happiness? (no one). So I learned a lot about being humble, speaking up, creating plans, being proa..."

"After my 6 weeks in Madrid, my Spanish and knowledge of Spain improved dramatically. This experience was worthwhile since I was able to understand their culture much more while having plenty of time to explore this unique country."

"We learned a lot of academic information, but the most important thing that I learned is how different everything is in Bhutan, while people are at least just as happy. It put American life in perspective, and made me wonder what happiness actually is. I also enjoyed learning about the Buddhist culture of Bhutan, and how that af..."

"I feel like a learned a lot about Chinese culture, and different kinds of Chinese people, which was something I had less exposure to on my homestay program in HS. I also became more independent, and felt like I grew as a person from both good and bad experiences. "

"Going abroad was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Going to Perugia was also one of the best decisions I have ever made. Rather than go to a large tourist city, I recommend smaller cities like Perugia for a more authentic Italian feel, for more opportunities to practice your Italian, and for less congested streets. ..."

"I gained a certain confidence from living abroad and I feel like my French improved by leaps and bounds. I think it was important for me to live outside of my comfort zone for a semester. It was definitely worthwhile for me and I have an deep fondness for Paris."
A student Brandeis University
"It was, without a doubt, worthwhile. I loved London. I loved the feel of the city, and the culture, the small, winding streets. Everything about the city was perfect. I gained more of a global perspective on what a city can be like. I also learned a lot more on how to be alone. I didn't make a ton of friends, and spent a lot of ..."

"I gained experience and perspective. Invaluable spanish skills, life skills. Totally worth it. Wouldn't change a thing!"

"Going abroad was the single greatest experience I've ever had. It opened me up to being spontaneous and curious and adventurous. I learned that planning isn't everything. I also met some of the coolest and influential people, both in London and elsewhere. I learned the importance of travel and culture. In the end all of that exp..."

"I gained more sympathy for the immigrant experience. I learned to better deal with situations where things were out of my control. I learned more conversational Spanish and I learned how to make friends in another culture. I learned how to try new things but to still be true to myself. I learned how to be away from home for ..."

"I learned a lot about myself. Being so far from the people I know and love, on my own, it forced me to grow as a person and discover new things about myself. Most importantly, I hope to hang on to the notion that everything isn't as important as it seems, there's no reason to be stressed out all the time, because things will wor..."

"I grew both spiritually and personally. I developed an appreciation for traveling and experiencing new things. I would do it again in a heartbeat. "
