University Information
The Office of Study Abroad supports Brandeis students who participate on any of our 300 approved programs in some 65 different countries around the world.
On average 40% of the junior class studied abroad during the academic year while still more students took advantage of various international opportunities in the summer. There is a huge diversity of transformative experiences that Brandeis students have engaged in abroad including studying biodiversity conservation hands on in Panama, conducting ethnographic research on sacred figures in Mongolia, interning with Parliament in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, and interning in special education classrooms in Sydney, Australia to name a few.
Whatever your story, journey or adventure is destined to be, come by our office to learn more about the steps to going away!
Additionally, by logging in to Abroad101, all approved programs will be tagged with an "Approved" badge.

"I learned how to be much more independent and self-reliant. It was definitely worthwhile and I absolutely loved it, even though SOAS ended up not being my favorite choice for a school."

"It was more than worthwhile. I learned what I'm capable of in terms of adjusting to a completely new culture and way of life. I learned much and more about one of the largest groups of humans on the planet. I learned that I'm fortunate to live the life I do."

"Learned a lot about Bolivia. Learned a lot about how differently people can see the world. Got a better perspective on what the US appears like internationally. Spanish skills are much better. Learned to be more independent. Worthwhile for sure. "

"I discovered the meaning of Love through connecting with nature and with everything around us. I reconnected with the ocean and with my roots and my culture. I rediscovered the Peace and Joy in flowing with everything that life brings us. Worthwhile doesn't begin to discover all I gained from this experience."

"It was very hard to break into such a large university in one semester. While exchange students were paired with a buddy, visiting students are not. I spent the first week of class just trying to locate buildings -- I pretty much felt like a freshman. Montreal is a terrific city, but McGill (especially in the wintertime) might n..."

"I gained very valuable internship experience abroad. It was definitely worthwhile."

"I became much more independent and self-reliable. I know that I will be able to pull through for myself, and that I will alway be there for myself. I am much more autonomous and emotionally independent, as I only had myself to cry to for 5 months (family and friends were very supportive, but they couldn't be there with me). I am..."

"I learned a lot about myself. I realized how strong I was and how much I have to offer. It was definitely worthwhile and I would do it again in a heartbeat."

"I think my time abroad could be described as a "vacation" that I needed. It gave me time away from others (family and friends) to understand myself and to see where I stand at this moment in life. I gained a lot from one semester abroad and there were multiple times where I contemplated staying a bit longer. Of course, there are..."

"Being abroad is a great experience and is definitely worthwhile. It's hard to explain everything I learned, but I think in general a gained more confidence and knowledge about a different culture. "

"It was definitely a worthwhile experience and I learned a lot about the culture and way of life of the French people and I also learned a lot about myself. "

"I learned so many unexpected things while studying with SEA semester. Obviously, we all learned about oceanography, Caribbean history, global trade, biology, nautical science, weather, etc. But, the most worthwhile aspects of this program weren't the facts we learned or the papers we wrote (all though the academics were incredi..."

"How to talk to people about difficult topics. Working with the locals and helping change their perspective on sustainability. "
A student Brandeis University
"I learned that even though we may have good intentions to help another country, doesn't mean we are not causing more harm than good. It was definitely worthwhile!"
Ajai S Brandeis University
"You can make friends ANYWHERE. There are wonderful people all over the world. You just have to be warm and open and don't let fear hold you back from meeting people and making friends in a different culture. You also learn so much about your study abroad country from making friends with local people. Go forth, and make friends..."

"I learned so much about myself while traveling and realized that I am capable of being completely independent. I learned so much about different cultures and met so many fantastic people. "

"My Spanish definitely got a lot better and I was forced to learn how to be independent. It was definitely worthwhile."
A student Brandeis University
"I learned to be more independent, and it was nice to see the "real world", unlike at Brandeis. I do think it was worthwhile, just not on an academic level. "
A student Brandeis University
"I'm glad I went on this program because of the friends that I made and because of the things that I learned about myself. I now know that I have absolutely no interest in anything relating to International Relations. I wish that the program emphasized the importance of French or German more, and that I had been able to actually ..."
