The Umbra Institute was founded in 1999 in Perugia in cooperation with Arcadia University as a center for higher education offering academic programs for students of U.S. colleges and universities. Arcadia has been a leader in study abroad for over sixty-five years and in 2009, its existing Center for Education Abroad was elevated to College status, thereby creating The College of Global Studies. It is the first College of its kind dedicated to the delivery and development of education abroad. Arcadia University and the Umbra program are recognized by the Ministry of Education in Italy, a member of AACUPI (the American Association of College and University Programs in Italy), and accredited by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges. The Institute also maintains academic affiliations with the Center for International Studies, Roger Williams University, The Universita’ degli Studi di Perugia, the Universita’ per Stranieri di Perugia, and the Accademia di Belle Arte di Perugia, as well a number of other top-tier US colleges and universities.
