"I definitely gained more fluency and a greater understanding of cultural differences. I wholeheartedly believe it was completely worthwhile, even with the things I didn't like so much!"
A student University of Northern Iowa
"It was 110% worthwhile. It was a trip of a lifetime and i learned so much about myself, other cultures and ways of life. Parts were challenging but that's where the growth came in. I gained confidence in making friends, food, travel plans and how to take on new experiences. "
A student University of Northern Iowa
"I learned that I want to travel so much. I became more independent and now I know I can live on my own and travel alone. I am so grateful for this experience and wish I could live it again. "
Jazmine M University of Northern Iowa
"I've gained an amazing amount of confidence and real world experience from my time abroad. I've been able to function at a much higher rate than I was ever able to before I left America. "
A student University of Northern Iowa
"It is hard to describe what I gained from the experience. You literally just have to go and see for yourself. I promise you will not regret it. "

"It gave me a new perspective on Europe, and the rest of the world. It also gave me a new perspective of America. How our media influences the whole world. "
Joel H University of Northern Iowa
"I was able to meet new kinds of people and engage on a new level with students not within my same major. In school it easy to get used to spending time with people in my classes but this trip allowed me to get closer to the people I traveled with. I enjoyed meeting new people and experiencing a new culture. Now being back on cam..."

"I learned about a whole different culture, and seeing how people live in Nicaragua really makes me appreciate what I have here in the United States."
Kaylan B University of Northern Iowa
"It was definitely worth while! I realized how little I know about the world and how much emphasis the United States puts on "being the best." In the U.S., we tend to think we have it all together, but really we don't. I realized that I am equal to all citizens of the world and to really get to know others, it is important to und..."
Roxane K University of Northern Iowa
"The trip was incredibly worthwhile. I learned that service work and giving back to society is something that I am passionate about, and sometime I wish to include in my future work and personal life. Also, it expanded my boundaries as far as where I was searching for work, what types of work I was looking into, and shattered s..."

"I learned a lot about myself, including the very important things in my life and making sure to emphasize them. I also learned a lot about Central America. Prior to the trip, I had many stereotypes. These were all broken when I was there. I think it was definitely worthwhile and I would love to go back!"
Ryan R University of Northern Iowa
"I thought the concept of the trip was great, but was not executed well. I would suggest going on the trip but wish it was with another professor. It was great and an eye-opening experience to see a Central American culture and developing country. I loved the culture and country and want to return sometime on my own. Overall it w..."

"I gained a better understanding and appreciation for the culture of Nicaragua. I experienced what it is like adjusting to and connecting with people from a different culture. The trip could have been much more worthwhile if we had more reflective group discussions, a more clear purpose, and more chances to build relationships wi..."
A student University of Northern Iowa
"I learned that professionalism and communication with students is critical for building relationships and providing a safe learning environment. It was not worthwhile to feel like we were treated in a demeaning manner everyday by the professor."
A student University of Northern Iowa
"I learned many lessons in professional and respect, primarily through negative examples. I learned about some of the cultural similarities and differences between the U.S. and Central America. However, I don't feel that my time was necessarily worthwhile, I could have learned some much more had the trip been run differently. "
A student University of Northern Iowa
"I learned that people live differently but at the end of the day we are all just human. It was worth while to me because I was exposed to so much that I wouldn't have been otherwise."

"Argentina as a country is one of the most incredible places that I have ever been. Buenos Aires is a city that is full of so much life and culture. I never had a dull moment, I was never bored, and I never ran out of new things to do. Buenos Aires will make you fall in love and never want to leave. Argentina, with all of its div..."

"I gained a lot of independence. I gained confidence in myself. I gained some new friends I will have for life. I learned how to handle myself in new and slightly scary situations. I learned how to overcome cultural barriers. "
Kali S University of Northern Iowa
"I learned a lot about myself as an individual. I consider myself to be very involved at my home university - music ensembles, soccer team, student organizations, etc. But while you are studying abroad you don't have all of that to fall back on and you are forced to make friends based on other and more real commonalities. I learn..."
