Past Review It Was Great!
It was great - Doane College View Entire Review
The most important thing that I learned while abroad was the reality of the Middle East versus what we see in the media. I never once felt in danger or threatened. If anything, I felt at home because of how welcoming and open the people that I met there were. - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
Past Review Amman, Jordan
It was one of the best experiences of my life and would consider doing it again. Learning how to live in a more conservative society helped me learn a lot about myself. - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
I gained a greater knowledge of Arabic, as well as a greater knowledge of the region and Jordanian culture. I am so glad I went, and I only regret not going out and exploring even more. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I gained/learned way more than I can even begin to describe in this survey. Respect for a people and an entire region of the world that is vastly misunderstood is one of the biggest gains I can think of, as well as the many many new friendships with people abroad and in the United States. My gosh, YES it was worthwhile. - Indiana University - Bloomington View Entire Review
I became very bi-cultural and really immersed myself in daily life in Jordan. I learned that life in the Middle East is completely normal and there are a lot of stereotypes and exaggerations from American media that truly need to be overcome in order to improve American-Arab relations. Arabs in Jordan were some of the friendli... - Indiana University - Bloomington View Entire Review
I became more optimistic on my outlook of life and learned to be flexible when dealing with others. Living in Amman broke my habit of being the "fast paced, in control American." - University of Denver View Entire Review
An understanding of a new culture as well as my own. Also I learned a lot of Arabic and now have confidence in speaking. - William Jewell College View Entire Review
I learned to be more patient with myself, my studies, and my situation. Living in Amman presented a set of challenges that forced me to get out of my comfort zone in a way that I may not have had in another city. I'm glad I went. - Indiana University - Bloomington View Entire Review
I gained a far better understanding of the Arabic language than I ever could have in the US. I also had many opportunities to experience new cultures and gain a better perspective on world affairs. - Fordham University View Entire Review
Past Review Eh.
Yes and no. If I had been able to go to Syria, I think I would've found it to be a much more fulfilling experience, but then the grass is always greener. At the very least, I wish I had only done one semester here and gone elsewhere for my second semester abroad. My understanding of the Middle East as a region is much more compr... - Wellesley College View Entire Review
My experience was defiantly worthwhile. People stereotype Muslims and Middle Eastern countries because of 9/11, but from meeting the people and living in Jordan - it was nothing like the media portrays it. Jordanian's are very nice and welcoming - they love teaching Arabic and learning English! I traveled to other countries whil... - Marywood University View Entire Review
Studying in Jordan has made me more interested in studying Middle East history and politics. I would also like to continue studying Arabic in the future. - University of the Pacific View Entire Review
I learned a lot of language skills, which was my primary reason for going abroad, and I made a lot of friends who are interested in the same kinds of things as I am that I will definitely keep in touch with. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Definitely worthwhile. I gained great knowledge of the Middle East, improved at local and FusHa Arabic, got to know more about the culture, and make great friends. - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I grew as a person and so did my Arabic skills, but what I'll remember most is the friends I made and the fun I had. - Brandeis University View Entire Review
It was absolutely worthwhile. I learned who I can be when dealing with adversity, and I met the most fantastic people. - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
A student studying abroad with CIEE: Amman - Language and Culture
Definitely worthwhile. Being able to travel was the best part for me. Jordan itself is a little underwhelming. - Villanova University View Entire Review
It was absolutely worthwhile, I learned so much about myself, my values, opinions I strongly held that radically changed. I gained a huge network of friends interested in the same thing and a broader perspective about life and human nature. - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I learned that becoming comfortable in a foreign culture is possible. Even with imperfect language skills, you can carve out a routine for yourself. - Brandeis University View Entire Review
Improved my Arabic, made many friends--American and local, learned how to survive in a foreign country by myself, - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I gained irreplaceable experiences, life long friends and the ability to speak an insanely cool language. It was the most worthwhile thing I have ever done. - Clark University - Worcester View Entire Review
My time was incredible. It was a great experience to get to know others, as well as know myself better. It was challenging, exciting, wonderful, difficult, adventurous and so much more, and I wouldn't have changed it for anything. I think the chance to experience another culture and way of living is an incredible opportunity tha... - Fairfield University View Entire Review
