I gained independence, confidence, and responsibility. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I learned how to adapt quickly to living and learning in a city that was so different from where I'd grown up. I absolutely fell in love with the people, the city and the work that I did there, and I would go back in a heartbeat! The academic environment was full of wonderful discussions, the friends I made were warm and inviti... A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Academically, my time abroad shed light on interests I would like to pursue in the future by providing me with real world and hands on experiences. My view on many aspects of life were broadened and I am now more of a global thinker, being able to analyze and appreciate different cultures. Beatriz L - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I gained independence and maturity. It was definitely worthwhile Margaret B - Middlebury College View Entire Review
You can make friends ANYWHERE. There are wonderful people all over the world. You just have to be warm and open and don't let fear hold you back from meeting people and making friends in a different culture. You also learn so much about your study abroad country from making friends with local people. Go forth, and make friends... A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I adopted several Danish values and gained several very close friends whom I intend to remain in contact with for the rest of my life. It was very worthwhile- even for someone who isn't fond of traveling. John K - Trinity University View Entire Review
I learned that I should be grateful for the opportunities I have had education-wise, because clearly many other American students are not nearly as well-informed as me. I know this sounds elitist of me, but when someone, for example, asks if Margaret Thatcher was an actress (and believe me, comments like that were very common in... If I could do it all over again, I would choose DIS in a heartbeat! I am considering interning there after graduation because i've enjoyed the way they teach there so much and how they choose to see and portray the world in classes. I studied the most abstract courses while there, but was taught how to actually apply what I wa... Lindsey B - Trinity University View Entire Review
I learned more about myself and my capabilities. I have more confidence in myself in all situations. A student - Providence College View Entire Review
Best experience in college by far. Would recommend it to anyone. You learn so much about yourself through living outside of your comfort zone in another country by means of the different culture and the people you meet. Irreplaceable experience. I would recommend someone looking to study abroad to avoid doing a Villanova program... A student - Villanova University View Entire Review
I learned that the American way is not always the right way - that there are some areas that America really needs to improve on that other countries are doing really well. It was definitely worthwhile to realize that there are cultures where you can leave your baby out on the sidewalk while you shop inside a store and you don't ... This was one of the most difficult semester of my life, and yet it was also one of the absolute best!!! Going abroad has been one of the best decisions I have ever made! A student - Providence College View Entire Review

It was great to get to really become a part of a new family, and learn a different method of living. Douglas S - Middlebury College View Entire Review
The best way to benefit from studying abroad for me was to let go of expectations and allow myself to become present, aware, and accepting of new experiences, people, and cultures as I traveled and began to understand many in many new contexts. My outcome was very different from my goals, and that has taught me a lot. Definitely... jessica m - Tulane University View Entire Review

I gained independence and a more cultured view. I could not have gained that while staying at home. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I learned to be more independent, and it was nice to see the "real world", unlike at Brandeis. I do think it was worthwhile, just not on an academic level. A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review
Everything. It was amazing. Macy C - University of Redlands View Entire Review
travelling is a bout putting yourself out there and not being afraid to stretch yourself A student - Trinity University View Entire Review
I learned how to be more independent. I learned about different healthcare systems and cultures. And yes, it was worthwhile. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I realized how important making international relations is and how beneficial it is to learn from the successes and failures of other people/countries. I came away from my study abroad experience as a more well rounded and independent person. I came away from Copenhagen sure that I would be back some day in the near future. I learned a lot about my myself, how to be independent, how to be happy and how to enjoy life. conner.adams.71 - Providence College View Entire Review
Learned that many places and societies function VERY differently from the United States, sometimes in better ways, sometimes in worse ways. It was very worthwhile to get this exposure, and I would definitely do it over if I could. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review

DIS - Study Abroad Scholarships
This merit-based award honors a beloved former DIS faculty member, Jacob Buksti, who passed away in 2016. Jacob built a strong legacy in modern Danish politics and made a deep impact on the hundreds of DIS students he taught from 2003 to 2016. Jacob served the Danish Social Democratic Party as a parliamentarian, party spokesperson, and Minister of Transportation during an impressive political career, and he was deeply devoted to sharing his work and passion with U.S. students at DIS. He loved being a politician and, even more than the theories and policy study that fueled his coursework, was passionate about the living, breathing game of European domestic and international politics. We offer this scholarship of up to $10,000 each semester to a deserving DIS Copenhagen or DIS Stockholm student who exhibits: A major in political science, international relations, government, public policy, economics, or a related field Passion about pursuing a career in politics An understanding of the work it takes to be actively engaged to advance yourself and your mission, interest in European/EU politics, and awareness that effective politics has many avenues A high GPA, strong personal essay, and recommendation from a professor or academic advisor Note: summer awards are not offered for this scholarship at this time.
$10,000
