My time abroad in Denmark taught me a lot about what I'm capable of, instilling in me a new self-awareness and confidence. I learned a lot about Scandinavian/European culture and politics, giving me insight as to how the supposedly "happiest" people in the world live, clarifying the wonderful and problematic things about my own ... - Wellesley College View Entire Review

From an environmental studies major, I learned an incredible amount living in one of the greenest cities in the world for just a semester. Not only in classes, but even in daily life. It was very worthwhile to live like a Dane because they really know what they are doing to protect the environment in Denmark! - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I learned a lot by traveling independently and living somewhere where English wasn't the first language. I loved my experience and made some lifelong friends but, personally, I don't know if it was as much of an immersion experience as I wanted. Denmark is safe, trendy, progressive and fascinating but in my opinion, it was a saf... - Fort Lewis College View Entire Review

I became more independent. I couldn't always rely on others. I made it a point to step out of my comfort zone and I made great friends and have amazing experiences because of it. I highly highly recommend DIS for studying abroad! - Barnard College View Entire Review

I feel rewarded by the challenges of living independently and immersing myself in a foreign culture. Copenhagen is a unique and beautiful place, and its people are culture are equally so. Scandinavia is an amazing place. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I learned a lot about European culture, and I gained a greater appreciation for my own culture and values. I was able to be very independent and grew in confidence because of that. I also formed friendships with other international students studying in Copenhagen. - Trinity University View Entire Review
I learned how to interact with other culture different from mine. Also, I learned how to utilize public transportation by myself (I'm from Texas, so this was a big deal). This experience made me more independent, self-reliant, and confident. I wouldn't change a thing about my experience and absolutely think it was worthwhile. DIS - Study Abroad Scholarships

This merit-based award honors a beloved former DIS faculty member, Jacob Buksti, who passed away in 2016. Jacob built a strong legacy in modern Danish politics and made a deep impact on the hundreds of DIS students he taught from 2003 to 2016. Jacob served the Danish Social Democratic Party as a parliamentarian, party spokesperson, and Minister of Transportation during an impressive political career, and he was deeply devoted to sharing his work and passion with U.S. students at DIS. We offer this scholarship of up to $10,000 each semester to a deserving DIS Copenhagen or DIS Stockholm student who exhibits: A major in political science, international relations, government, public policy, economics, or a related field Passion about pursuing a career in politics An understanding of the work it takes to be actively engaged to advance yourself and your mission, interest in European/EU politics, and awareness that effective politics has many avenues A high GPA, strong personal essay, and recommendation from a professor or academic advisor Note: summer awards are not offered for this scholarship at this time.
