While abroad, I took classes both through my program and at a local university (Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca). There is no better way to improve your Spanish speaking, writing and reading capabilities than to be part a full immersion program like mine. Program directors, mentors, professors, and host family were always th... Darby M - University of Rochester View Entire Review
I studied in Salamanca, Spain through IES during their Summer Session I. This program is a month long and perfectly timed for busy students who have a rigorous class schedule during fall/spring semester and/or have other summer commitments. As a pre-med biology major, I was unable to study abroad for an entire semester. Howe... Molly T - University of Portland View Entire Review
Language skills - I went in with an advanced level of Spanish, and I left with an even more advanced level. I have trouble saying I'm fluent because I don't understand where to draw the line. I'll never be native, but I definitely improved. Confidence - Both in language and in self. I had never traveled alone before in the U.... Ben G - Ithaca College View Entire Review
From the moment I first stepped foot on Spanish soil, I swore to never be afraid to try new experiences, and to not let any opportunity escape my grasp. And by studying abroad through the IES Salamanca Program, I found such an amazing array of opportunities to get involved not only by taking stimulating courses on the Franco Reg... I learned that there are lovely people in Salamanca but the university system is really lacking. I probably could have found a better program (location-wise) to cater to my more demanding academic interests, but I can't say that I regret going to Salamanca due to all the friends I made and experiences I had. A sense of independence that I really had not had even after going away to college. You are in a foreign country where the majority of people do not speak your language. It was extremely worthwhile and a great experience I will never forget Jacob V - Gettysburg College View Entire Review

I wanted to explain why I put Groundhog Semester my title. I was referencing Bill Murray's movie "Groundhog Day". I placed it there because without a doubt if I could repeat any expereince over and over again, it would be my time in Salamanca. I'd like to say I'm conversationally competent in Spanish. haha. I gained a larger ... Britani B - Trinity University View Entire Review

I'm more comfortable with international travel and air travel in general now. I tried a lot of different Spanish foods and know how to cook them for myself. I understand more Spanish, have a larger vocabulary, and am faster at conjugating verbs. A student - Trinity University View Entire Review
I gained independence and confidence because I was able to speak the language better than when I arrived and I could plan my own trips. I enjoyed living in a family setting in another country. I learned about what made them laugh and what made them proud. I learned about the history of the country and applied it to my experience... Hannah I - Villanova University View Entire Review
I've only been back in the US for a few days now, and I imagine I'll see more of an impact as time goes on. My biggest goal was to improve my Spanish skills and most definitely did that. I also developed some new interests in art and history by actually being in Europe where so many of the major movements took place, but it al... Ashley P - Carleton College View Entire Review
Before studying abroad, I was burnt out in school. Learning had become an overwhelming process and life just seemed to be so ordinary and repetitive. It was a monotonous existence. When I went to Spain, I experienced a fun way to learn in a completely foreign environment where every aspect of living was a learning experience.... There will be ups and there will be downs. One moment your on top of the world and the next you're crying on the floor of a train station and both experiences are important. Don't let the bad ruin the good. Molly F - Trinity University View Entire Review

The most important things I took away from my experience were a number of friends from different countries and a new appreciation for a different pace of living. I gained the first by joining an Ultimate Frisbee team and by being active in the social scene, and the second simply by walking around Salamanca and enjoying its beaut... If you're looking for a university town full of energy, excitement, and new experiences, Salamanca is the city for you! In August 2014, I left the comfort of my home in the Rocky Mountains to embrace a new culture, language and people.
