Past Review Thank You Japan
This isn't a world in which one country, mindset, or viewpoint dominates. Be able to critically and thoughtfully engage with that which is foreign to you. Sometimes that takes living in a different country or speaking in a different language. - Tufts University View Entire Review
I wish I could have done it for a lot longer. - Valparaiso University View Entire Review
Yes, I am much more outgoing and generally happier because of my time in Japan. It was a great experience and I hope I can return soon and continue traveling elsewhere in the world. - Towson University View Entire Review
great times. great people. great food. - Illinois State University View Entire Review
It has been a very interesting experience and there is a lot I have gained from it. More than I can just put into words. - Indiana University of Pennsylvania View Entire Review
It was probably the most worthwhile thing I have ever done in my life. - Oklahoma State University - Stillwater View Entire Review
I gained international perspective, a multicultural education, and insight into another part of the world. The rating remains a 3/5 because although it was a great experience, personally I did not gain a great deal academically and had to move in an out of the seminar house twice during the midterms and right before finals putti... - University of Northern Iowa View Entire Review
There are so many different people and culture that I'm not familiar with. One thing that I learned from this program is that I have to accept them as they are. I can't judge them based on my knowledge or value. - SUNY - Binghamton View Entire Review
Absolutely. I made many friends that I still keep in touch with and my Japanese ability is years ahead of where it would otherwise be. It was an amazing cultural experience and something I will remember for the rest of my life. I would do this again in a heartbeat. - Oklahoma State University - Stillwater View Entire Review

I had a great time in Japan, and experienced some wonderful moments. I learned a lot not only about Japan, but about world cultures and globalization. To be sure, not everything can be perfect in a 4 month span of time. My host family turned out to be a dud. But I made lots of friends from Japan, America, and all over the wo... - SUNY - Binghamton View Entire Review

It was very worthwhile and it offered me an experience that I will never replicate probably. I can't say exactly what I gained from the program, aside from some of the obvious aspects like knowledge and experience but that stuff is very important. Also I met a lot of people from around the world who I keep in touch with, which i... - SUNY - Binghamton View Entire Review

I have greatly improved my language skills. Also, I have gained knowledge about foreign countries' customs, not just Japan either, but through the other international students I have learned about their countries, and how America is viewed. This experience has reinforced my wish to learn more languages and travel or work abroad. - Hollins University View Entire Review
My primary goal in traveling to Japan for a semester was to test my own ability to immerse myself in a completely different culture and language. Overall, I succeeded in doing so. I learned a great deal and really, truly enjoyed my five months in Japan. My experiences contributed greatly to my study of Asian History and Politica... - SUNY Purchase View Entire Review
I have become much more confident in my abilities and overall sense of self. Studying at Kansai Gaidai has changed me for the better. I am 100% satisfied with my experience and cannot wait to go back to Japan. I have decided to put off graduate school for a year in order to participate in JET because of my experiences. As cliche... - Valparaiso University View Entire Review
Being in Japan and making Japanese friends were incredible. I learned that the American way of life is not the only one, and it is perhaps not the best one. I learned to take more risks, and I gained a surprising amount of self-confidence. - Illinois State University View Entire Review

Past Review Ai~Love Japan
I had never doubted myself before, but I know for a fact that Japan is the place where I want to live for the rest of my life with a career, family, kotatsu, and all the katsudon I can eat. Japan has made me a better person: cleaner, greener, and far more polite than any American I've ever met. You will be surprised when you r... - Gustavus Adolphus College View Entire Review
I had a different experience than other students because I went there already fluent in Japanese, so it was more learning how to function by myself than refining/learning a new language. Studying at Kansai Gaidai made me want to go back to Japan to teach English. - Clark University View Entire Review

This experience was worthwhile because I fulfilled a lifelong dream, and beyond just the dream it let me change my views to like it in a different perspective after going. This makes me even more happy with my time abroad. - Indiana University of Pennsylvania View Entire Review

I learned that international people are very educated about the world, and that I knew so little about world happenings before I started the program. My geography has certainly improved! I'm more aware of what people think is acceptable socially as well. It's all just a matter of where you're living and with whom. I've become so... - Kansai Gaidai University View Entire Review

My study abroad experience held so many wonderful memories and experiences, and I wouldn't change it at all. Other international students are often quite interested in traveling together and participating in various activities both on and off campus. I found myself far more motivated to do well in school because of this program;... - SUNY Purchase View Entire Review

I think it's helpful to some extend. I think my language skills defintely improved, however, I don't think the cultural part improve as much as I expected. Especially the home-stay part. The family that I stayed with was not very Japanese but very Americanized which made me kind of disappointed. - SUNY - Binghamton View Entire Review
