Despite Scotland being an English-speaking country I still went through culture shock and feel like I got such a different educational and cultural experience while there. It was easy to travel, but there were also endless things to do in Edinburgh, so I was constantly exploring and experiencing new things. A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review
There's so much to learn and experience about the world outside of the United States. Travel between European states deemed much cheaper than expected, surprisingly, so it was great to experience different cultures in such close proximity to one another. I also learned a lot about my family's heritage through a genealogical sear... Rachel H - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I learned a completely different academic approach to learning, much more based on independent study and scholarly research than my American experience. I learned how to travel well, how to adjust to a new city, to bond with and relate to a group of international friends, how to be optimistic, and to be more outgoing. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
Words can't even describe it! It's been the time of my life and I would come back in second. I am seriously looking into living here after graduation. A student - Fairfield University View Entire Review
It was absolutely worthwhile. I learned so much about Edinburgh, a city I now love, and I gained a sense of independence at a large university that you just can't get at small liberal arts colleges. student3000 - Middlebury College View Entire Review
My experience abroad was incredibly worthwhile, and has inspired me to want to live abroad in the coming years. I learned so much just from being on my own in a foreign city. I gained a lot of insight from being in the middle of the city and getting to experience all of the culture. Leigh N - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I learned more how to be independent in my studies A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I learned a new international perspective to my major and got to share mine with other people. I gained lots of life long friends and a permanent international network. It was awesome. I would definitely do it again and I am even looking into grad school at the same institution. A student - Cornell University View Entire Review

I learned that I am adaptable and that I can deal with setbacks. I also learned that I love to travel. The experience was incredibly worthwhile. I hope to get back to Europe, but it also made me appreciate the US, while at the same time noticing areas where we can improve. A student - Cornell University View Entire Review

A home? It sounds silly and cheesy, but I could really see myself moving back to Edinburgh in the future. I gained a city, really, and the openness that comes with that - the willingness to try a whole host of new things I would never have done before. annelle.castillo - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Too much to encaspulate in a survey. New perspectives. New self-confidence. New friends. New interest in exploring and actually LIVING. A student - Fairfield University View Entire Review
Yes! I had such a great time and it was an amazing break from Wellesley. I got to travel and see more of Europe and also visit my family in England. I made some amazing friends both from the U.K. and around the world. Everyone should go abroad! Don't be afraid of what you are missing at Wellesley. A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I learnt to be more independent, and calmer when things went wrong. Yes, absolutely. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
100% WORTHWHILE. It was tough deciding if I was going to stay for a year. To be honest, I miss Wellesley everyday- it truly is a wonderful place, and we are getting an unparalleled experience by living and learning there. That being said, I also love Edinburgh, but it is different, and I think that when going into any study ... Lauren T - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I gained what I wanted and hoped to gain: a sense of independence, a broader view of the world, and a stronger feeling of confidence in myself and my abilities. I made good new friends and had a lot of fun traveling with old ones. It was definitely worthwhile. Having said that, I missed my family and friends every day and often ... Very worthwhile. Learned a lot about research, developed social skill, and had a lot of fun A student - Barnard College View Entire Review
Life-changing; became more independent, budget-conscious, adventurous, and risk-taking. Learned to branch out socially and navigate a more adult social climate. A student - Fairfield University View Entire Review
I learned a great deal for my future career and academic goals A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I gained a sense of self worth and independence. I was abroad for the first time without a 'program' or even friends and I thrived. I gained a new global perspective and went native. Overall, I'm glad that I didn't do the traditional study abroad experience. I got to truly know the place I was staying and I was able to fully... A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review

I definitely thought this experience was worthwhile. I not only proved to myself that I could live in a brand new city for a year on my own, but I also gained independence through traveling and planning A student - Cornell University View Entire Review
Trust in my ability to be OK in a foreign country Alexandra K - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I learned a great deal about Scotland and its culture while meeting some great people (with whom I'm still in contact). I learned to work with different professors and their teaching methods. My semester abroad was absolutely worthwhile - I wish I could do it again! A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review
