I've become more open-minded and independent. A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review

I learned that I want to continue to travel for as long as I can, and that I'd like to live abroad someday. I found that I fit in far better in Britain than I ever have in America; you wouldn't think that the culture is that different, but it truly is. It was an incredible experience. I learned much about the cultural differences and similarities between the UK and the United States, as well as how to manage my money and travel on my own and much, much more. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I loved the traveling I got to do while in St Andrews and met some really fantastic people. The courses I took were interesting and very different from those I could take at home. However, St Andrews is really not all that different from a university you might find in the US. I would go abroad again in a heartbeat, but I think I... Studied abroad my entire junior year. Being one of the best universities in the UK, St Andrews not only contributed to my academic development but also gave me a relevant experience in communication with a broad range of individuals from different cultural backgrounds. I can't honestly say that this was the most transformative experience for me. However it was a great time, I got to spend time in a country that I was unfamiliar with, and I also had opportunities to travel to other parts of Europe. I do not in any way regret my decision to go here, but I think if you are an American looking for... nicholas l - Middlebury College View Entire Review
Overall, being abroad was a wonderful experience and allowed me to experience so many things that I would not have otherwise had the opportunity to. Scotland is a wonderful country and I really enjoyed my time there, as well as all the St. Andrews students that I met and became friends with during my time abroad. Given the choic... During my semester I got to experience another culture and a different type of learning environment. It was definitely worthwhile. It was the perfect Febmester experience. I got to travel and start school when my other friends were. Also coming here, starting classes again was not as scary as it was for other Febs who hadn't... I learned a lot about my study habits and what type of teaching I enjoy. I also learned how to navigate a much different social scene than I was used to. I think the opportunity to gain these skills was worthwhile Alexandra C - Middlebury College View Entire Review
Definitely worthwhile. Learned to be more independent and learned about living abroad and all that comes with it. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I became a stronger and more independent person. It was worthwhile, but maybe at a different point in my life. Claire B - The College of William and Mary View Entire Review
It was definitely worth while. I learned a lot inside and outside of my courses. I learned about a different way of learning. I learned about how to be more responsible for my own learning. I learned about how to be a better traveler. About how to organize all of the things that you need to travel: transportation, lodging, vis... A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I always rolled my eyes when people would say that "study abroad is a life changing experience", "you make life long friends", etc. But it's true. Every word of it. Studying abroad gives you a type of clean slate. This is your chance to grow as a person and change without the influence of close friends or peers. Normally being a... I gained a more realistic view of the United Kingdom and an opportunity to explore the rest of Europe. More importantly, I experienced physics classes taught at a significantly larger university than my home institution. The experience was definitely worthwhile in terms of my enjoyment and in my exposure to different academic en... A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
Worthwhile in giving me a chance to experience a different culture and college before it really mattered. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I gained a lot of independence while I was away but also a greater appreciation for what I have at home. It was definitely a worthwhile experience, and I would highly recommend it. But it is what you make of it. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
The travel, golf and social aspects were great. The actual academics gave me a better appreciation of the American system. I think that it was very worthwhile. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review

I learned how to be more independent. I had never cooked for myself before so that was a challenge but it was fun to learn. I also learned how to manage money, especially traveling expenses, and gained some lifelong friends from all over the US and Great Britain. I went to St Andrews after an emotionally tough fall for me and wh... A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review

I learned that I can be independent, and that I am so glad I went abroad. I know I would have regretted not going, but I have no regrets about going. I got to travel and explore Europe, which was incredible. A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Looking back, I'm not sure if I would have studied at St. Andrews for my Febmester. I think that I would have really enjoyed doing a backpacking trip in Asia or South America because I had spent time in Europe before doing my Febmester and it would have been great to try something different. I made some really great friends,... A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I enjoyed being in an entirely new academic and social environment, and I think it was this novelty that challenged me more than anything else about my time at St Andrews. A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Cultural differences. Yes, worthwhile. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I honestly didn't enjoy my abroad experience. I would have loved to be in a big city. Also, I wasn't 100% sure that I actually wanted to go and made the decision very last minute before taking the time to really look at the school. I think that College is a very special time in a persons life and looking back, I would have rathe... A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review

About
Founded in 1413, the University of St Andrews is Scotland’s oldest university, and the third oldest in the English speaking world.
The University is located in the mediaeval coastal town of St Andrews on the east coast of Scotland. The town, with its close-knit community, is very much our campus with University buildings interspersed with shops, cafes, supermarkets, pubs and restaurants. Surrounded by rolling countryside we also boast some of the most beautiful beaches in Scotland and access, by good public transport connections, north to the Highlands of Scotland and south to England. Our nearest international airport is Edinburgh from which students can travel to Europe relatively cheaply during breaks.
Academically, St Andrews is consistently ranked amongst the UK’s top 5 universities and is one of Europe’s leading and most research intensive universities. In particular, a number of subjects are internationally recognised: Chemistry, Divinity, Earth Sciences, English, Film Studies, German, History, International Relations, Mathematics, Philosophy and Physics.
With around 7,500 students, one-third of whom come from overseas, we have also been ranked first in the UK for student satisfaction for five years running. Students enjoy a vibrant social life in St Andrews, taking part in student societies, sports, musical and drama productions, and dancing at one of the many Balls that take place throughout the year.
St Andrews welcomes a large number of non-graduating students to our International Study Abroad Programme each year.
