YES, so worthwhile! I found out that I love field geology and field mapping, and I got to hang out with future geologists/miners/oilfield engineers. My experience abroad put me on a completely new path, one that branches in a thousand directions. It really opened up a world of possibilities for me. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I gained a greater degree of self confidence than I had before. - The College of William and Mary View Entire Review
So much. I learned more than I ever expected--I got a whole new perspective on life, friendships, and academia, as well as, dare I say it, other cultures. I had done a lot of international traveling before this experience, but have never felt culture shock like I did when i first arrived for study abroad...and never felt like I ... - Barnard College View Entire Review
I learned that I, and only I, am the only one in the way of my own progression. Regardless of what I liked and disliked about the program, the experience I had in St Andrews, Scotland is a reflection of my own choices. If I could go back, I definitely would! With maybe a few tweaks here and there, but overall I am so glad I did ... - The College of William and Mary View Entire Review
Studying abroad in general has helped me determine what kind of career I want to have after university. The close interaction with faculty and seeing my fellow students' senior honors dissertations has guided me towards what I want to actually do. I would not have had that experience at my home institution simply because of th... - University of California - San Diego View Entire Review
Absolutely, I learned so much about a culture I knew nothing about and I met the coolest people I could ever meet from around the world. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
Yes, despite the similarities between the Uk and the US, there are still many cultural differences. Experiencing and coping with these cultural differences taught me about how I think, tick, and operate. It helped me address my own strengths and personal weaknesses; how American society has influenced me etc. I am also much ... - The College of William and Mary View Entire Review
Scotland was a beautiful country. I was able to travel on my own both around Scotland and internationally, that has given me so much confidence and freedom. I got such a new perspective on history, and loved being able to not only see, but study in and around buildings as old as those on the St Andrews campus. Living with intern... - University of Southern Maine View Entire Review
I am so glad that I went abroad. Not only did I continue to accomplish my academic goals, I was able to learn how to balance leisure and academics more effectively (which also developed my time management skills). I made a group of incredible friends, and I had the best time learning about many different cultures. - Wellesley College View Entire Review

Yes. It made me more aware of other people's opinions on education, politics, family, travel, and the world. I saw a different style of education, seeing how to improve my old version while appreciating it for its strengths. - The College of William and Mary View Entire Review
Oh gosh, I don't really like the "if you could do it all over again" question. I don't regret going, I just didn't like it. I came home with a greater appreciation for William and Mary (and America in general), and I feel like I developed a new sense of independence from my time abroad. I like all of these things. - The College of William and Mary View Entire Review
Loved it. Made wonderful friends from all over Europe, got to travel on weekends, and had so much fun. Oh, and learned some academics on the side... - Middlebury College View Entire Review
It was very worthwhile. It was great to experience something that was very different from Wellesley. I became much more independent from doing a lot of traveling over spring break and weekends. It hasn't changed my future plans but I am very glad that I did it. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I could have tried to put myself out there more, as I'm not naturally very outgoing, and that limited my enjoyment of daily life in a new place. However, I don't regret going, as I got to do some great things. - The College of William and Mary View Entire Review
I learned how to live a long way away from my parents on a small budget with little clothing. It was worthwhile, but I wish I'd met some better people. - The College of William and Mary View Entire Review
It was definitely worthwhile - I think the most significant thing I gained was a greater perspective on my field. I'm an English major, and having four months to explore and study the UK in person, physically visiting locales from stories I read, added a new layer to my perception I didn't have before. - The College of William and Mary View Entire Review
I can't answer that in a small box, but yes it was worthwhile. - The College of William and Mary View Entire Review
My experience was very worthwhile. I noted the downfalls because I believe other students should have an idea of what they're getting themselves into, but none of the pitfalls were a huge problem for me. I enjoyed my classes, loved the country, and made amazing friends. I highly recommend a similar experience to other culturally... - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I learned a lot about the world being exposed to different people from around the world. I would love to go back to Europe again. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I'm incredibly grateful that I had the opportunity to study abroad. That said, I do love Wellesley and studying here has made me realize that. St Andrews was a lot of fun for a semester, but I don't think I could do it for much longer; I really began to miss the small, close-knit, single-sex community at Wellesley. I had great c... It was so fulfilling to me to be at St. Andrews. I learned so much from the atmosphere there and from the different study style. I feel like I grew as both a student and as a person. I met some incredible people from all over the world and really realized what undergrad is supposed to be about - learning and growing as a person,... - The College of William and Mary View Entire Review
Most definitely. It basically fit exactly what I expected, academically, socially, and in all other respects. It's definitely widened my perspective a bit more, made me want to travel, and possibly study/live in the UK in the future. View Entire Review
I would do it again in a heartbeat. I miss parts of it and the people I met everyday and I can't wait to go back and visit sometime in the future. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I really enjoyed studying in St Andrews; I learned a lot in my classes that I wouldn't have had the opportunity to study at Wellesley, but I found it pretty isolated from the rest of Scotland. - Wellesley College View Entire Review

Never miss the chance to have an adventure. You never know what you may find! I went to St. Andrews with high hopes and though the first few weeks were a tough adjustment, I eventually found people who remain dear friends still, four years later. My abroad experience impacted me to such an extent that I am now persuing my doctor... - State U View Entire Review

About

Founded in 1413, the University of St Andrews is Scotland’s oldest university, and the third oldest in the English speaking world.

The University is located in the mediaeval coastal town of St Andrews on the east coast of Scotland.  The town, with its close-knit community, is very much our campus with University buildings interspersed with shops, cafes, supermarkets, pubs and restaurants.  Surrounded by rolling countryside we also boast some of the most beautiful beaches in Scotland and access, by good public transport connections, north to the Highlands of Scotland and south to England.  Our nearest international airport is Edinburgh from which students can travel to Europe relatively cheaply during breaks.

Academically, St Andrews is consistently ranked amongst the UK’s top 5 universities and is one of Europe’s leading and most research intensive universities.  In particular, a number of subjects are internationally recognised: Chemistry, Divinity, Earth Sciences, English, Film Studies, German, History, International Relations, Mathematics, Philosophy and Physics.

With around 7,500 students, one-third of whom come from overseas, we have also been ranked first in the UK for student satisfaction for five years running.  Students enjoy a vibrant social life in St Andrews, taking part in student societies, sports, musical and drama productions, and dancing at one of the many Balls that take place throughout the year.

St Andrews welcomes a large number of non-graduating students to our International Study Abroad Programme each year.
