Boston University is a program provider offering 41 abroad programs. Programs offered include Study Abroad and Internship abroad programs in 9 countries such as The United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, and France.
At Boston University, global learning is at the heart of our mission to prepare students for meaningful impact in an interconnected world. Through BU Study Abroad, we offer one of the largest and most diverse portfolios of university-run international programs in the United States. With more than 80 programs in over 20 countries, our students have the opportunity to live, learn, and engage in communities across six continents.
Our programs are academically rigorous and designed to align with students’ fields of study. Many of our signature offerings integrate classroom learning with practical experience through internships, research placements, and service opportunities abroad. Whether it’s studying public health in Geneva, completing a film production internship in Los Angeles, or exploring global business in Shanghai, students gain real-world experience while earning BU credit.
In addition to our international sites, we offer domestic study away programs in cities like Washington, D.C., New York, and Los Angeles—providing further flexibility and professional development options. All BU Study Abroad programs are supported by dedicated staff, both on campus and in-country, to ensure that students receive the academic, cultural, and personal support they need for a successful experience.
As a global research institution, we are committed to helping students expand their perspectives, challenge assumptions, and develop the skills needed to thrive in today’s global landscape. At Boston University, studying abroad isn’t just about travel—it’s about transformation.

Study Abroad with Boston University
"Yes! You just achieve a whole other level of independence by living abroad, especially if you go without your usual group of friends from home. It's a rare opportunity to travel to another part of the world and really immerse yourself in a different culture. "
Erin M Boston University
"My study abroad experience was fantastic. I learned so much about myself and the European culture. I was able to travel while studying and see as much of the city as I desired. I have since been back to London two times and can't get enough. I would love to study abroad again in the future. "
Leah L Boston University
"I think that it would have been more worthwhile if it had not been so isolated. I feel that by having their own "university" Boston takes away from the experience of French classes and a more global outlook."
Kate C Trinity University
"Speaking about my study abroad experience puts a smile on my face as it brings back so many good memories and fun times. I went to London knowing nobody and was forced to step outside my comfort zone by making new friends and trying different things. My internship in London played a significant role in my future plans as it ..."

"I learned how to relax and not preoccupy myself with unneccesary worries. I also learned a lot at my internship that I may not have had the opportunity to learn in the states because of my lack of previous experience. "
Lauren H Boston University
"The study abroad experience was definitely worthwhile. Even though I missed home and and my college I was able to experience so much more than I ever anticipated at a very young age."

"If I had to do it all over again I would do it in just the same way. The BU London Internship Program has allowed me to experience things that I never would have had the opportunity to do in the US. The experiences that I had in London have helped me to better focus my future plans and understand what is important to me in my fu..."

"I learned a lot about myself, my friends and my family. I understand a lot more about Europe and France. I am proud of myself for having lived by myself. I learned another language, I learned how to cook, I met amazing people and am so thankful."
Gabrielle H Simmons College
"Incredibly worthwhile."
Rebecca S Tulane University
"The program was amazing!! The classes were great and internship was a great, worthwhile experience. They really cater to your specific needs and wants to find each student his/her perfect internship. It is easy to travel all over Europe, so take advantage of it! The only issue is money...which can be avoided if you learn to cook..."
Jess H Boston University
"My French improved dramatically. I learned more than I could ever have imagined in general. However, I wish that I had had more time for traveling to the rest of Europe like the other Valpo study abroad programs. Although it required a ton of work, it was definitely worthwhile. "
Kathleen B Valparaiso University
"Definitely! I had an amazing time, got to travel to all sorts of fun places, and my French improved by leaps and bounds."

"It was very worth while. I my Italian improved so much, I was able to travel all over Italy and Europe. I learned about how to travel alone and I gained a tremendous amount of confidence in my abilities. "
SarahG Tufts University
"My experience was definitely worthwhile, though I felt a little shortchanged on the academic side; I'd have liked more focused teaching from the professors, and more discussion of the material rather than so much independent study; it almost felt as if we were required to do so much on our own time because the professors just di..."
