Everything we do is about the IES Abroad student.
Created in 1950, we believe in crafting unforgettable, life-changing educational adventures that go beyond our students' expectations. Every year about 6,500 study abroad students choose IES Abroad for their authentic study and intern abroad experience.
Our work starta in our Chicago headquarters and spreads across more than 130 study abroad programs in more than 30+ locations worldwide. With this network, we develop authentic global education and life-affirming cultural experiences. We believe that studying abroad should be a part of every student's academic life, and we aim to not only provide study abroad opportunities, but to consistently maintain a friendly, fun, and safe academic and cultural environment.
We believe so firmly in the power of our academically superior programs, that we actively recruit students from diverse populations and pledges more than $5 million in scholarships year after year. We are proud that our students are as diverse and exciting as the countries we study.
Through IES Internships, we offer a variety of full-time semester and summer internships in 15 locations around the world. For more than 40 years, we've provided opportunities to intern in some of the world's most exciting cities. With IES Internships, you'll have a guaranteed placement, more on-the-job hours, dedicated assistance with résumés and interviewing skills, and the ability to network with other students.
How will study abroad redefine you? We can't wait to find out.

Study Abroad with IES Abroad
"Definitely"
Liana D The University of Texas at Austin
"I gained increased langauage abilities. Overall everything was beyond what I expected. The city is wonderful, I love Spain, and being there while the World Cup was going on was incredible. "
Ethan T The University of Texas at Austin
"I wouldn't say it opened my eyes or was culturally enriching, but I did have a great time getting to see a part of the world that I otherwise might not have ever seen. I didn't learn how to be a better global citizen, but I did notice cultural differences among the different countries I visited, and how they view tourists."
Kevin R The University of Texas at Austin
"Te experience itself was amazing and I would do it all over again if I could but I would not choose IES."
Diandra P Trinity University
"Definately. I would go abroad again in a heartbeat. Especially to Ireland - I think I fell in love with the place. I had friends that had gone abroad before, and after having gone myself, I know exactly what they were talking about when they said I would not regret the decision!"
James W Trinity University
"Very worthwhile, language, independence, food, maturity"
Maria A Trinity University
"definitely worth while. i like traveling and i have done it before so i already sort of knew what to expect. however, staying in one place for 7 weeks proved to be a slightly different situation. i definitely earned a lot more independence. which is what i wanted. i also had enough time to really get to know some people from spa..."

Cesare M Trinity University
"My study abroad experience was one of the best experiences in my life. It was definitely worth it. From this experience, I learned more about myself as an individual, my strengths and weaknesses as a person, and about the greater diversity out there in the world. "
Elizabeth F Trinity University
"About to enter my senior year of college I felt pretty concrete and set in my ways. However, studying abroad showed a side of me i didn't even know existed and was able to expand my personal perception and beliefs even further. It has taught me that I am someone who needs to constantly be traveling and experiencing new cultures ..."
Lauren W The University of Texas at Austin
"This experience was definitely worthwhile! I really experienced the culture and acquired a greater understanding of the world around me."
Paige V The University of Texas at Austin
"Studying abroad was definitely worth it. Being on my own in a completely foreign culture forced me to adapt and negotiate with my surroundings. It was difficult to be so far from my family and friends, and even more challenging to face racism for the first time, but the friendships I made and the experiences I had in Japan made ..."
Caitlin C Tufts University
"Yes I loved it and want to go back! I learned so much about myself, the country, the language. why I the way I am and why Italians are the way they are. I met so many different interesting people and got to visit so many places, was exposed to a wonderful culture!"
Gaby1 Trinity University
"I improved my German language skills, discovered how another people live, and tested my ability to start in a new place. I would do it again despite the less than satisfying intellectual experience in the classroom."

Kathleen1 The University of Texas at Austin
"The program didn't really affect my academic interests, however, it did provide me with a solid seating for my second semester of junior year. Learning a new language was something that I feel was extremely rewarding and now I can't wait to learn French. I love my host family and hope to stay in touch for years to come. It was a..."
Jennifer F Simmons College
"European Studies here at W&M emphasizes language and history, and this program offered me the political science and economic academic opportunities I hadn't taken at my home school. The courses also all complement each other and branch off a core of foundational information which is taught immediately in the program (during orie..."
Elizabeth F The College of William and Mary
"Absolutely! While it didn't necessarily impact my cultural awareness as much as maybe some other countries would have, I still got to experience being on the complete other side of the world, and they DO do things very differently. I also feel that maybe others would have more of a cultural awakening if they haven't been anywher..."
Samantha F University of Rochester
"Studying abroad was one of the most worthwhile things I have done. To be able to live with my host mom and have her teach me so much about the language and the culture, to travel as much as I did to so many amazing places, and to make a few good friends in a sea of immature Americans, were really life changing. I am so glad I ..."
