St. Mary's College of Maryland is a program provider offering 11 abroad programs. Programs offered include Study Abroad and Internship abroad programs in 8 countries such as Peru, The United Kingdom, India, and Turkey.
St. Mary’s College of Maryland, a public liberal arts honors institution, offers an abundance of international study options designed to fit a wide array of academic interests and goals. Students can choose from faculty-led study tours and semester exchanges across Asia, Europe, Africa, and Latin America. Signature programs include immersive experiences such as an Andean Study Tour with cultural immersion in Peru, Shakespearean and literary tours in England, tropical biology research in Belize, and programs at renowned hosts like Lingnan University in Hong Kong, JCU in Australia, and Mahidol University in Thailand. These options span disciplines—including environmental science, humanities, languages, and performing arts—and promote deep engagement with global perspectives.
St. Mary’s also supports access to study abroad through innovative initiatives. A recent IIE Passport Project grant equips Pell-eligible first-year students to obtain their passports for the first time, removing a key financial barrier. The Office of International Education guides students through every phase—from program selection and application to credit planning—ensuring that learning abroad integrates smoothly with academic plans. SMCM’s emphasis on experiential learning, equity, and individual advising ensures that international study is both accessible and transformative.

"I thoroughly enjoyed the immersion in a foreign culture. There are certain nuances that you come to appreciate, and also cultural aspects that make you take stock of your own culture. It was absolutely worthwhile and I would suggest anyone who has the opportunity to take advantage of this study abroad program."
Brendan H St. Mary's College of Maryland
"I learned that the parts of the world we have limited exposure to are misrepresented by the media to a certain extent. The middle east is not 100% bombs and war zones. The people can be incredibly kind and friendly, I felt so welcome most of the time. It was absolutely worthwhile, and I can't wait to go back."
Willow S St. Mary's College of Maryland
