"I learned, first and foremost, that I don't like living in France and I don't like being forced to speak French. Which are very useful things to learn! I went into the experience expecting to double major in Music and French, and by the end of it I knew that I wanted to just focus on Music. I learned that I can be a functional, ..."

"I learned that it is hard to adjust to it raining everyday but you have to make it worthwhile. You are only there for a, what may seem long, short period of time and you should go out and do everything you can because you never know when things can change (i.e. COVID 19)."
Aneeza Asif Barnard College
"Definitely worthwhile. It was helpful to see a culture that operates differently because it forces me to think about why things are the way the are where I come from, as opposed to just accepting them as normal"

"Be prepared for a fun adventure every single weekend, the best scenery of your life, and being pushed way outside of your comfort zone in the best way possible. I accomplished many feats I never thought I would, made lifelong friendships, and enjoyed every second of being in a new country with a new culture. Work hard play hard ..."

"Through IES I got to reach beyond my comfort zones and because of that I’ve gotten to spend my time with many different wonderful people. . Now, all I want to do is travel more, in general, and to return to Santiago. I have a better idea of what is important to me in terms of my career goals (turns out travel opportunities and c..."

"I feel like I grew a lot. I learned a lot about who I am and what I value. I realized how independent I am and how much I value my alone time. These were important realizations. I had one class that I loved and which exposed me to politics in Australia as well as in Asia which was incredibly helpful. By taking me out of the tris..."

"The assessments were more intense, so I learned more about managing my time to balance out my work and "play" schedule. I think I came out of the experience a more independent person who isn't afraid of doing things other than work because it "would waste my time" - i.e. found a more balanced lifestyle than I would've allowed m..."

"Studying abroad, while challenging at times was definitely worthwhile, and my favorite semester of my college experience. Take advantage of the opportunity if you can. Abroad gave me the opportunity to reflect on many of the aspects of my life and path that I take for granted while at school in the United States. The opportunity..."

"I learned to live on my own in a foreign country. Going to a program not knowing anyone and traveling Europe alone taught me a lot about myself. "
Lydia Barnard College
"I gained so much intercultural fluency, and made so much progress in my french language skills (which were already decent). Everyday was an adventure, so yes worthwhile to put it lightly. By the end, the way I saw myself and my future had completely changed. I understand the importance of education overseas, and there's no doubt..."

"My Arabic speaking and listening skills improved immensely, especially my Jordanian dialect. I gained a lot of personal confidence, both in using my Arabic in the city and dealing with situations where I had to stand up for myself. I also made some amazing friends, since the students attracted to this program tend to be super in..."

"I gained a high proficiency in French, which made it pretty worthwhile. I had studied abroad before, so my experience was not as life-changing as it was for others (happily, I experienced that the first time I was abroad!). I sometimes wish I had only gone for a semester rather than a year; there were some important courses I co..."

"The truth is that I gained and learned SO much from India, Madurai, and indeed from SITA. It was one of the hardest experiences of my life for many reasons -- it was physically and emotionally draining. But the friends there I made are my friends for life, and I wouldn't trade them for anything. I also realize that the type of p..."
