Brandeis University
University Information
The Office of Study Abroad supports Brandeis students who participate on any of our 300 approved programs in some 65 different countries around the world.
On average 40% of the junior class studied abroad during the academic year while still more students took advantage of various international opportunities in the summer. There is a huge diversity of transformative experiences that Brandeis students have engaged in abroad including studying biodiversity conservation hands on in Panama, conducting ethnographic research on sacred figures in Mongolia, interning with Parliament in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, and interning in special education classrooms in Sydney, Australia to name a few.
Whatever your story, journey or adventure is destined to be, come by our office to learn more about the steps to going away!
Additionally, by logging in to Abroad101, all approved programs will be tagged with an "Approved" badge.

"Any experience in a foreign country for a year will undeniably make you learn a lot about yourself and collect a tonne of experiences, and that was certainly the case for me. In addition, Australia is an incredibly beautiful country with a welcoming culture and kind people, so it's an ideal place for a year abroad. It was all de..."

"My experience was absolutely worthwhile. It was hard at times. I have been away from home a lot before, but none of my experiences were like this one. I was thrown completely out of my comfort zone, was miserable for bits of the time, but I wouldn't change a single day. I learned to silence my mind and just observe and learn; I ..."

"It was definitely worthwhile. I learned a very different culture than US."

"People talk about how spending time abroad completely changes you and your perspective. For me, this was very untrue. Perhaps it is because I had the opportunity to live in multiple countries abroad growing up, but I am not sure. I found that being abroad gives you a better understanding of who you are by challenging and questio..."

"I learned a lot about the New Zealand Film Industry, since my internship was at Script-to-Screen (a fantastic nonprofit organization for people in the industry). "Most definitely worthwhile. I can't say a lot to a cultural experience, but never before I have I felt so in touch with my own strength and with nature."
A student Brandeis University
"I think it was entirely worthwhile and experiencing life abroad for a year instead of just one semester was much more valuable. I felt that I was truly living in the city and culture and got a better experience of immersion. Getting the chance to be abroad, travel and experience different cultures at this age is also something..."

"No matter where you go abroad, you will learn countless skills--from living without wifi to navigating the crazy streets in a place where you do not speak the language and you lost your map. You learn to be independent and how to fend for yourself. You also learn a lot about your own biases and culture by constantly experiencing..."

"Overall, I learned more about French language and culture in Paris than I ever could have in the United States. For that reason alone, studying abroad was worthwhile. But there are also many other reasons study abroad was an amazing experience, such as the personal growth, the new friends, the opportunity to travel, and so much ..."
