Students - visit IUP’s Study Abroad information sessions in the OIE to get started, and then decide on a destination and how long they want to stay—a summer, a semester, or a year. In many cases, program costs are based on IUP in-state tuition and fees, and students often can use their existing financial aid for the study-abroad program they choose.

"It was absolutely worthwhile, and I only got 1/3 of my experience. Florence is my love, thanks to SAI and FUA! I learned so much about what I want in life, how I relate to the world, and how to navigate an unfamiliar place and unfamiliar situations. I have a strong drive to become bilingual now and a love for Italian food and cu..."

"I learned that you are very vulnerable in this situation. Something that goes wrong can seem a lot more upsetting than it should be. Also, don't have such high expectations that when you arrive you are disappointed. I wasn't disappointed with the town or the school, just with some locals (especially men) and the students. "

"I learned a lot about taking care of myself and being 'on my own' (without family + old friends). It was definitely worthwhile. Homesickness sucks but it teaches you how to deal with it since you don't have a choice. I loved experiencing the culture first hand, and living in a place so different from my area at home."
Kayla Kroczynski Indiana University of Pennsylvania / IUP
"I learned about the large amount of both similarities and differences between us and other nations, I learned how to communicate with those who do not speak English fluently, and most of all, I learned about myself. Was it worthwhile? YES"

"What didn't I gain? I went to another country, and not only learned about another culture and language, but also about myself. I've discovered more about what I want out of life and how I'm going to achieve all of these new goals I have for myself. Worthwhile? Yes. God yes. It was the best experience of my life. "
A student Indiana University of Pennsylvania

"I don't consider myself a feminist but I despise the way boys and men treat women in this country. It is shocking how many men don't trust their girlfriends to go places alone or the appalling cat calls a girl receives which walking innocently on the street. At times here I felt more like a piece of meat than I did a real person..."
