I learned that European modern Welfare state systems produced much less social inequality than the neoliberal state system of the U.S. Hudson F - Trinity University View Entire Review

I had opportunities in Denmark that were once in a lifetime. I was able to become a more self-sufficient and independent individual. It was a semester that encouraged me to think and live differently. Alyssa H - Pacific Lutheran University View Entire Review
Yes, it was amazing! I wish I could do it all again! I definitely want to spend more time in Copenhagen because it is such a wonderful place to live. I loved it! Molly D - Barnard College View Entire Review
It was worthwhile...I learned a lot and am I more evolved young woman now. However the people on my program were all from the East Coast and were wealthy, privileged and apathetic. I had a hard time connecting with them. The Danes were also challenging to get to know. My living situation was isolating and disappointing. Claire P - Pacific Lutheran University View Entire Review

Living in Denmark has opened up the entire world for me, as I have visited dozens of countries since then with the skills and confidence that I gained there as a study abroad student. I plan to work in study abroad specifically because I want to enrich students' lives as much as I felt like DIS enriched mine. My host family is a... Sara B - American University View Entire Review
Academically, it was a great experience, it wasn't really a 'break' from school like some other programs though. You really are challenged, but in a good way that makes you think in different ways and on different levels. Socially, I met some really great people, maybe not friends for life, but we got along and had some really... Emily S - Providence College View Entire Review
It was worthwhile but when I reached Denmark I realized that it didn't fit my personality at all. It really felt like the only kind of social interaction I could have with other students was to go out at night and drink. That is not what I like to do so it was hard to interact with people my age. Not anybody else's fault othe... Kelsey H - Pacific Lutheran University View Entire Review
I still haven't fully grasped all the ways I've changed while I've been away, but I know that nothing can begin to compare with my experience abroad, and I fully believe that everyone should make an effort to do any study abroad program they're interested in. Yes. I want to go back to Europe!!! The time I spent in Denmark and in Europe solidified my beliefs about myself and about America. It challenged my independence but also allowed me to create relationships with people that I know will continue. Amalya H - Trinity University View Entire Review
It was incredibly worthwhile! I grew as a human and feel so much more awake. I appreciate my life and aspects of my life more than I did before. My experience didn't change my future plans or academic interests, but it did often peak my interest in the differences between the criminal justice system of Denmark and the US. Definitely worthwhile. While I didn't really learn all that much, I met so many great people and had so many great experiences that it was 100% worth it. In fact I'm thinking about working abroad after I graduate. Tyler R - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review

I've become much more culturally aware of myself as a U.S. citizen. My Medical Practice and Policy Program has significantly impacted my perspective on health care globally. Yes! I learned a lot about myself, education, and Europe in general, and would love to do it all over again! Kyla B - Wellesley College View Entire Review
It was worthwhile but I wish I had gone to a different program. Molly S - Wellesley College View Entire Review
It made me realize how much I want to travel more and learn about new cultures. It also made to gain more knowledge about Europe and European issues such as immigration. Devika W - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Absolutely worthwhile. I am really happy I chose Denmark because it allowed me to see a part of the world that not too many people see or even think to see. It was really neat having essentially one study abroad program within Copenhagen, allowing us to have 700 kids in our program and have a unifying thing! DIS - Study Abroad Scholarships
This merit-based award honors a beloved former DIS faculty member, Jacob Buksti, who passed away in 2016. Jacob built a strong legacy in modern Danish politics and made a deep impact on the hundreds of DIS students he taught from 2003 to 2016. Jacob served the Danish Social Democratic Party as a parliamentarian, party spokesperson, and Minister of Transportation during an impressive political career, and he was deeply devoted to sharing his work and passion with U.S. students at DIS. He loved being a politician and, even more than the theories and policy study that fueled his coursework, was passionate about the living, breathing game of European domestic and international politics. We offer this scholarship of up to $10,000 each semester to a deserving DIS Copenhagen or DIS Stockholm student who exhibits: A major in political science, international relations, government, public policy, economics, or a related field Passion about pursuing a career in politics An understanding of the work it takes to be actively engaged to advance yourself and your mission, interest in European/EU politics, and awareness that effective politics has many avenues A high GPA, strong personal essay, and recommendation from a professor or academic advisor Note: summer awards are not offered for this scholarship at this time.
$10,000
