A gained a new knowledge of self, a new love for the Chinese culture, and an improved set of language skills! It was definitely worthwhile and I wish I could do it all over again! A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I loved living in China. The way the program was run was actually the part I was most often dissatisfied with. Studying abroad was definitely a worthwhile experience. My Chinese improved a lot. A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I feel like a learned a lot about Chinese culture, and different kinds of Chinese people, which was something I had less exposure to on my homestay program in HS. I also became more independent, and felt like I grew as a person from both good and bad experiences. A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review
Being my first experience abroad in my life, my experience at CET-Middlebury in Hangzhou really did impact my life in many ways. I don't think I could have advanced my language skills as much anywhere else, while also allowing me to become a truly independent person. The immersive experience that this program offers really doe... Ryan H - Kenyon College View Entire Review
Yes! I learned so much Chinese, made great friends, and I am ready to go back this summer. Sara-Kate A - Tufts University View Entire Review
I had already been to China multiple times, so I didn't really experience the culture shock or feel like I was in "a new world" or anything like that. It was a more interesting and worthwhile experience in terms of personal independence living abroad than cultural immersion/exchange. A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Greatly improved my language skills, got to travel to many parts of China, made many friends. Don't expect to leave fluent if you start at a lower level but you will definitely improve Haley Shanahan - Wellesley College View Entire Review
All the cheesy, cliche stuff they say about experiences abroad are true! I gained a newfound love for the Chinese language and culture and people, I made meaningful friendships, and I learned more about myself. Priscilla Lee - Wellesley College View Entire Review

I learned a LOT. The program was an intense experience, especially since it was my first time abroad. China has a completely different culture, and it was something I had never experienced before. My Chinese level skyrocketed and the entire trip was 100% worthwhile. I got to visit beautiful cities, meet interesting people, and g... Agata N - Northwestern University View Entire Review
I think it was an overall worthwhile experience, but it depends on the atmosphere of the program. A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Balance between classroom study and outside interaction. This is the most effective language learning/retention method A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Impossible to list them all, so I won't try. Suffice to say that I am saving every penny to return to China ASAP, so I can continue my language learning and find a job. CET helped me see that China is a big part of my future. Emily B - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
About
Hangzhou, known as the Garden City for the unusual quantity and quality of its parks and greenery, is the capital of Zhejiang province. Located just over 100 miles from Shanghai in eastern China, Hangzhou was China's capital during the Southern Song dynasty in the 12th and 13th centuries when nomads from the steppe invaded Northern China. Human activity in the area dates back 4,700 years, and the current city has a history of over 2,200 years.
Today, Hangzhou has approximately seven million inhabitants and boasts at least 20 universities, an important emerging technology industry, and temples, pagodas, and museums acclaimed throughout China and the world. Additionally, beautiful West Lake, made famous in Chinese literature, offers a scenic respite from the activity of city life. With few international students and rich opportunities for cultural immersion, Hangzhou offers an ideal setting for Chinese language study.
The School in China's host in Hangzhou is the Zhejiang University of Technology (ZUT), which has its own attractive and recently landscaped campus in the center of the city. The university enrolls approximately 15,000 Chinese students on its welcoming, vibrant campus. Students have the option to choose a semester or a full year of study.
