It was completely worth while. I absolutely loved it and learned so much. I've grown more and came to more of an understanding about what I want to do with my future. Claire H - Marywood University View Entire Review
I think I learned alot about myself and what really matters to me. I didnt get the cultural experience I was looking for since there were so many Americans there already. I wish I would have been more daring in my search for a program. I met amazing people and saw amazing things, but I think if money wouldnt have been such an is... I am so glad I went and it was an experience I will never forget!! I would like to return without the safety net of the group from my homeschool. I had to challenge myself in many ways to have the experience I had hoped for, and I feel like many students don't push themselves in that way...which might be why they are disappointe... I absorbed everything around me and soaked in the experiences I had abroad, for me to access when I create art. Christina Barrera - Maryland Institute College of Art View Entire Review
It was so worthwhile. I not only got to go to Europe for the first time, but the country that my family is from originally. I have always been independent but this helped me even more so to manage my time and money. It also helped me in the realm of meeting new people from all over. It helped me to discover more about myself in ... Katherine L - Maryland Institute College of Art View Entire Review
It was worthwhile because being abroad is always worthwhile! the food was spectacular, I saw SO MUCH in that ridiculous art history class, I went to a lot of places I'd never been within Italy, I met two or three excellent people that I'm keeping in touch with, and my boyfriend (who'd never been to Europe before) and I took a lo... Studying in Italy only made me want to return. Despite times when I knew the world was crashing down around me, I still was able to say, "Well, I'm in Italy. Awesome." Katilyn B - Maryland Institute College of Art View Entire Review
I gained alot from traveling on my own, and meeting new people NOT through the school. Florencce as a city is very americanized so it wasnt a culture shock, but it is very beautiful. Jessica P - SMFA - School of the Museum of Fine Arts View Entire Review
I had more magical moments and lived more of my live in the four months than most of my life. Not just the time in Florence mind you, but the opportunity to travel to many countries and meet incredibly diverse people, real, beautiful people. The most exciting time of my life. Period. With more to come. Carl S - Texas Tech View Entire Review
I had a great time. Outside of school everything was AMAZING. I wish I hadn't enrolled with SACI but living in Italy and a foreign country in general is ABSOLUTELY worth it. I felt like I was at art day camp and that it was just a ploy to boost the nation's liquor sales. I wouldn't trade the experience for the world, but I ... I think my review so far has already summed this up, they really make these things thorough. Yes my experience abroad was definitely worthwhile, and I would do it again. My study abroad experience was definitely worthwhile. I got alot out of being in a foreign country and learning how to survive on my own. I grew as a more responsible and independent individual and developed strong artistic skills related to my major. It has given me a greater appreciation for the great work of Italian Masters a... My study abroad experience was unbelievable, I learned so much more than I thought I would. About
SINCE 1975 THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS HAVE BENEFITED FROM THE LIFE-CHANGING EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE OFFERED AT SACI.
The extensive range of studio arts, design, conservation, art history, and Italian culture and language courses provides our students with the means to meet their individual educational needs while connecting them with the rich cultural heritage of Italy.
The student body is comprised of students enrolled at US universities and at institutions in other countries. In both Fall and Spring, a student can enroll in five classes for a total of 15 credits. During these terms advanced students may be eligible to take a directed independent study or traineeship in a design firm, museum, or gallery. As part of their classes, SACI students often create artwork for local hospitals and human rights organizations, and restore major art treasures that are a part of Italy’s cultural heritage. Outside of class, student volunteers can teach English at elementary schools, serve as English-language museum guides, and assist at human rights agencies.
SACI’s mission is to provide undergraduate and graduate students with a challenging, life-enhancing experience in the center of Florence in traditional and contemporary studio arts, design, conservation, and art history. Students directly access centuries of Italian culture through a wide range of courses of academic excellence. SACI engages in leading areas of research and exploration, interacts with the community through artistic and social programs, and prepares students to excel in their chosen field.
Founded in1975, SACI offers Academic Year Abroad, Academic Semester Abroad, Summer Studies, MFA in Studio Art, MFA in Photography, MFA in Communication Design, MA in Art History and Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Programs in Conservation and Studio Art.
