I learned how to live independently and overcome obstacles that come with it. I grew to understand myself more by living in a different culture, no matter how similar it looks on the surface. It was academically challenging and I felt lost at times, however I relied on my new friends and was always able to push through it. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
New academic writing style - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I think it was worth while. I became more independent about my own learning and exploring. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I learned that I love literature and want to continue studying it, and I became a much better writer & academic - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I was able to take graduate level courses and learned a lot. There weren't a lot of academic resources available since the tutorial system encourages self-teaching and there are fewer resources online for grad level courses. However, it was nice to be able to take classes covering content not typically covered in undergrad cours... - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I learned a lot about critical thinking and how to interact directly with professors. I also learned how to read and write more efficiently and process my thoughts more completely. - Brandeis University View Entire Review
Oxford raised my academic abilities in many different ways, and made me realize more about what area of study I wanted to continue in. I would definitely recommend Oxford to anyone looking to challenge themselves further in academia (if this isn't their goal I would not recommend) because each course required many readings (at l... - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Past Review So Many Essays
I did learn a lot about British culture during this program. And having Oxford on your resume certainly doesn't hurt. I'm glad I went just to have had the experience of studying in a different country, even though I didn't love it. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
In my year away, I became a stronger analytical thinker and critical writer. I gained a lot of confidence in my writing skills as well. Beyond the academic, I definitely became a lot more independent as a person and comfortable being in situations I'm unfamiliar with. Though I didn't end up bonding with many local students, I ne... - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Past Review Academic
I've learned to interact more with my tutors and to manage my work better. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I learned so much about the importance of the humanities, community living, and the balance of work and leisure. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
The education system taught me self motivation in a way that only Oxford could. It's almost the complete opposite of American uni's and definitely something worth trying. You learn alot about yourself as you go through the program - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Past Review Academic Heaven
Was pushed intellectually in one-to-one tutoring sessions. Was able to travel cheaply through Europe during breaks. - Wellesley College View Entire Review

Yes. I can't begin to articulate how it has helped my gain so much perspective on my academic, professional, and spiritual life. My year abroad has given me so much and more. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I learned how to work in a different academic system. I gained a skillset in a different form of learning. I got to go out of my comfort zone, meet new people and make a new set of friends! - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Absolutely worthwhile. Academically, I learned how to digest 40+academic papers per week and write about two 2000-word papers per week as well. It seems hard at first, but by the end I had the process down to about a few hours each week. I also learned how to be more independent and how to adapt to new surroundings and to make t... - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I learned so much about life in England and the differences between our educational system. I absolutely loved my time at Mansfield College. Loved how I was able to grow with my friends there. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Better understanding of what I want out of my education, how to advocate for myself - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I gained a lot of confidence and maturity. Time away from Wellesley forced me to start over with no safety blanket. This made me into a stronger woman, academically, socially, etc. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Met new people coming from a different culture, helped open my mind to new perspectives. The essay writing greatly helped my writing skills. Traveling through Europe allowed me to explore. - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I learned how to manage my time in order to read a couple of books, make an outline, and write an essay within a week, and how to navigate the library systems and their individual opening hours in order to maximize my time. I also quickly learned that I needed to deliberately make time for friends and reach out to them, in order... - Wellesley College View Entire Review
A student studying abroad with University of Oxford - Visiting Students
I improved my critical thinking and writing skills by writing 2 essays each week and discussing my argument with a tutor. I learned about other cultures and countries. I learned that food is as much a nourishment activity as a social one. I realized the joy of learning from reading books—in print. - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I experienced a educational experience that will be difficult to match (even when I study for my Phd) and a vast array of incredible memories with local and visiting students. - Brandeis University View Entire Review
It was definitely worthwhile. I got exposure to a different style of education, had the opportunity to learn at one of the world's most prestigious universities, and took classes I enjoyed and found interesting. I also was able to travel a good deal, since Oxford learning is so self-directed. - Wellesley College View Entire Review

About

If you are a student from overseas (in most cases countries outside the EU) and wish to spend up to one year in Oxford on a course related to a degree in your own country, you can apply to a college for a place as a Visiting Student. As a Visiting Student you become a member of an Oxford college, and it is the college that will arrange for your tuition. Oxford does not award a degree or any other qualification for one year of study as a Visiting Student, but colleges are willing to provide a record of achievement, for example for credit purposes.
