Living in a new country for a semester opened my eyes to the vastness and diversity of the world we live in, but also helped me to see that people from all backgrounds can be considered as part of our "world family." Overall, I really was challenged personally, and simultaneously I was challenged by the culture and the reality of the experiences. Generally, I feel like my mind has been opened to just one part of the world that has changed my perspective on how I see the world, in terms of brokenness and reality of what's really going on. When asked why I chose to study abroad, I would initially respond with a rather generic answer such as, “to broaden my horizons”, or “to see another part of the world”.
