Middlebury Schools Abroad is a program provider offering 32 abroad programs. Programs offered include Study Abroad and Intensive Language abroad programs in 18 countries such as Chile, The United Kingdom, United States, and Jordan.
Participants in the Middlebury C.V. Starr Schools Abroad don’t just study a language—they live it.
Many of our students major in disciplines other than foreign languages, yet all bring a level of proficiency that supports their commitment to language and cultural immersion. They sign and honor the Middlebury Language Pledge because they want the greatest possible challenge in a study abroad program and an authentic experience in every respect; academic, social, and even professional.
Participants take courses in most subjects, often with host country students, intern or engage in volunteer work, and live with a family or local students. Indeed, at every juncture of their time abroad, students have the chance to "live the language" and immerse themselves in the host culture.
Middlebury also offers intensive summer immersion programs in ten languages, as well as graduate programs in eight of these languages. For graduate studies, visit http://www.middlebury.edu/ls/grad_programs/ and for Language Schools, visit http://www.middlebury.edu/ls/.

I gained unforgettable friendships and experiences, and found my time incredibly worthwhile. I also learned basic life skills, like cooking, cleaning, using transportation etc."

"Other than improving my French, I am more well-versed in French culture. I also had the opportunity to travel to several other cities because traveling within Europe is very cheap and accessible. "
A student Middlebury College
"Fluency in the language and a real-life experience of living the French lifestyle. It was absolutely worthwhile. I wish it had lasted longer!"
Abigail Romain University of Michigan - Ann Arbor
"I greatly improved my French. I met some incredible friends. I learned about French culture, student life and the NGO world in a way I never would have if I did not complete this exchange. I gained independence and more confidence. "
A student Middlebury College
"French language skills, immersion in a new culture, fantastic friends and internship experience that will serve me well. "
A student Middlebury College
"It was worthwhile. I learned that I don't take to cultural change as well, and that even if you're trying to immerse yourself, it's important to recognize that you're only there for 5 months, so you should feel comfortable holding on to certain customs. "
A student Pomona College
"I obviously gained a strong appreciation for the Chilean culture and language, and my ability to meet and connect with people from very different backgrounds from my own was amazing. "
Emily Neel Wellesley College
"It was incredibly worthwhile. I was able to connect with people I never would have met otherwise, who come from very different backgrounds. I was put in uncomfortable situations where I needed to be flexible and act with common sense."
A student Middlebury College
"It was definitely worthwhile. I have a lot of international experience, so for me it was more about the academics and the friends I made. "
A student Elmhurst University
"Absolute cultural immersion for six months in a fascinating country with lovely people"
David Cremins Pomona College
"I gained a lot of knowledge about the culture in Japan, of course, as well as what I learned in classes, but more than that I learned a lot about myself. I lived a lifestyle here that I'd never had the opportunity or even desire to do ever before, where I spent more time talking to people and making connections than doing anythi..."
Nadine Franklin Wellesley College
"I learned to live entirely immersed within another culture, rather than merely floating around the periphery of such. The overall experience was extremely challenging but without that difficulty, I would never have come away with the sense of fulfillment and self-understanding which I now carry with me in my every-day life."
A student Middlebury College
"I did learn plenty of research skills and how to use a library to my best advantage. I think Oxford is more worth while though if you do two terms with an individual college rather than a proxy program. I would recommend this program if you care little about travelling and want to delve yourself into Medieval or Renaissance stud..."
A Student Middlebury College
"My language speaking and comprehension (oral and written) progressed significantly. I can read academic books/catalogs, listen to entire lectures and understand everything including technical vocabulary. I speak more fluidly and with greater variation in vocabulary and style. "

Emily Moore Wellesley College
"You know those things you do in life when you first start out and it seems like it'll just be this fun new thing you'll try, you'll have the experience, and it'll be great and then it'll be over; but actually it turns out to be this incredibly valuable time of life, and a pretty transformative experience on a personal level, whe..."
Ben Belinski Middlebury College
"A lot of self growth. What is meaningful / where I should spend my time. Going and doing stuff rather than always saying I'm going to do stuff. "
A student Brandeis University
"Through my internship I gained an understanding of what I wanted to do for my career, but a lot of the classes were not very intellectually stimulating. Coming from my home university I was used to a certain standard of education, and I didn't feel very challenged or engaged. "
Kathryn Murgolo Wellesley College
