"Patience Flexibility Perseverance "
Briley Weidner Northwestern College
"This question would take forever to answer, simply it was all worth my time and I miss it a lot!"
Josh Vander Zwaag Northwestern College
"I learned more how to be more flexible and be okay with making mistakes. I need to continue working on this, but I really appreciated the semester for pushing me to intentionally work on this."
Dani Duistermars Northwestern College
"Living in Romania is easily one of the most worthwhile experiences I have had. Since our world is ever more "connected", digitally and otherwise, it is ever more critical that we learn to engage with the Other. After spending some time abroad, I felt as if I had lived my entire life up to that point with one eye closed. Because ..."
Molly Townsend Northwestern College
"Learned how to live in a foreign place and how to become a part of the community."
Karyn Vander Wal Northwestern College

Abby Northwestern College
"Cultural awareness, love and appreciation for other cultures, life long friends were made"
Jared S Kuyper College
"I gained a great appreciation for the day to day life of Denver. I loved getting to know people that I normally wouldn't have met when visiting Denver. Everything from the people to the experiences was a memory that I will always have. I feel like my perception of Denver will always be different than that of someone who is just ..."
Jason K Northwestern College
"I learn to value culture so much during my time abroad, living in Romania also taught me to value simplicity and enjoy a very relaxed culture"
Benjamin P Northwestern College
"Intercultural communication skills, time management, humility, hospitality."
A student Northwestern College
"I am used to different cultures in general, but this was something completely different. Imagine being thrown into foreign culture with little to no language lessons, but the lessons you learn each day you see around you. Same goes for the classes as you learn the history, culture, language, and development you actively see and ..."

"I came to have a deep appreciation for diversity and realized that I have a passion for working with children who come from underprivileged families. I also learned how to work with students who don't speak English. I also learned how to work with people who communicate in different ways than me. It was definitely worthwhile! "
A student Northwestern College
"What I gain and learned on this trip can not fit into this small space. This experience has informed the way that I want to live my life. It has changed the way that I view things. I has given me a perspective that I would have never found."
Josiah V Northwestern College
"I learned what it is like to work in the social work field and also work with the homeless community. I am appreciative of all I learned at my practicum site and highly recommend the Denver Rescue Mission to future social work students. My experience of living in Denver was wonderful and I learned a lot just by riding the bus ev..."

"My experience was very worthwhile. I learned more about Romanian culture, and what it means to be a stranger in a different land. I came to call Lupeni home and love the good and bad about it. "
Kara N Northwestern College
"Absolutely worthwhile. I was shaped, molded, and formed with the unique opportunity and experience of the Romania program that ultimately prepared me, motivated me for further education and work experience in community development best practices and biological studies."
Matthew V Northwestern College
"That's a loaded question. Yes, it was worthwhile. I learned that problem-solving is a very important life skill, and that living in community is the best way to live a good life. I learned about life under communism and how it has effected the Romanian people and society today. "
Geneva K Gordon College
"I learned firsthand that people from different cultures see the world differently, approach problems and solutions differently, and that different isn't bad. This has proved to be extremely useful while living and working in our ever-connected world. And due to the unique component of working with local IMPACT clubs, I left Roma..."
Candi F Northwestern College
"This experience was truly incredible. From the moment we stepped off the plane, we felt welcomed and at home. The best part about this experience is how deeply you feel connected to those around you. You will have the chance to make lasting friendships with a wide range of people, including your host family, the baker down the s..."
Rachel B Calvin College
"A theme for the semester is living life to the full. My friends and I tried to live our experience in Romania to the full and learn as much as we could. I still strive to live my life in this spirit. "
Charlotte R Northwestern College
"My semester in Lupeni was extremely worthwhile. It was challenging to me as a person, as a Christian, and as a student, as I wrestled with all the questions of cross-cultural living, sustainable and empowering development work, and my role as an outsider in a place that was not my own. The wrestling was just the beginning of a..."
Kelly O Calvin College
"My experience in Romania was so rich, it is hard to sum up! The things my internship with NHO taught me about community development, youth empowerment, and cultivating democracy greatly influences my current work with a non-profit in the U.S. and with starting a new school here. My study of Orthodoxy profoundly influenced my f..."
A student Gordon College
"I learned about another culture, people and religion. I understand that they are quite similar to me despite living so far away. They laugh, love, cry, and play soccer (futbol) as I do. The world is a big place, but we are not so different that we can't be friends or respect one another. It was completely worth my while!"
Kory M Northwestern College
"-Understanding about and a love for a part of the world (Eastern Europe) that I had never experienced before. -Relationships with my host family. -Deep relationships with my fellow students that still persist several years later. -Though participating in our internship with IMPACT youth clubs, we were able to see how the the..."

"During my time I made friends, met people who I hope to be in contact with for the rest of my life, learned so much, did an internship, went to castles, helped at summer camp, backpacked, learned Romanian history and then got to see the places we learned about--it was an amazing experience."
